Hello everyone!
In a previous thread I had mentioned about pc's identifying a wand, and the other recent thread about a cursed weapon, it's made me want to include a minor cursed item in my game...
Here's the question though, is there any way for a PC to identify if an item is cursed or not?
Per 3.0 Identify, you only identify the single most basic function of an item. So a cursed +1 sword only shows up as a +1 sword, correct? (does it matter what kind of curse it is? I'm thinking something like changing gender).
Per 3.5 Identify, you find out all of the properties of an item. Would this identify the cursed +1 sword as being "cursed"..?
The reason I'm wanting to do this is because like someone had mentioned in my previous thread about pc's just trying on every single magical item they find and trying to descover what it is without casting identify, I should slip in a minor cursed item. This sounds like a great idea to me!
The problem is, the reason I don't want them to just put on everything magical they find and try to figure it out is that I believe PC's should cast Identify more often. (I'm running a hybrid 3.0-3.5 game. It's 3.0 rules with some of the good things that came from 3.5, so I'm thinking I'll allow them to cast either version of Identify they want. The 3.0 version which identifies the single most property of multiple items, or the 3.5 version which only identifies one item, but all of it's properties). BUT, slipping in a cursed item really isn't going to be "teaching" them anything if Identify won't reveal a cursed item.
Is there some kind of "identify curse" spell? What level is it? Details about it? Where can I find it? Otherwise, how do PC's figure out an item is cursed short of using it and getting the curse? (or, if that is the POINT of a cursed item, I think I'd allow them to make some sort of identify curse spell, I feel they should at least be given a chance to see if it's cursed - if they bother to check that is
Thanks in advance!
