Can you guys recommend some free map making programs for a DM in need?

All of the maps I make on the computer are really bad, basically grids with labels. I want something that will let me print out areas that look like those places, at least a bit. My players are starting to complain, and I don't blame them. Thanks.

I don't know of any good map making software that is free. I will say that the campaign cartographer(sp?) works really good. the DM of the game I'm will be starting up soon has made some really cool maps/dungeons/castles with it. Kind of spendy though $40 for the basic version and then you can buy the extansions for between $22-$40 each(IIRC).

a couple of Free mappers I've tried is Screenmonkey and TMapper, neither of them as good as Campaign Cartographer granted but still good for nice looking maps, I also use AutoREALM as its good for multiple genres, has that labels on a grid look to it still, but its free as well.
