Can you use a Partial Action to Ready for later in the round?

Is what you quoted above the ACTUAL PHB language, or just what you recall?

More or less ...

PHB, page 120.

Initiative

...

Flat-footed: At the start of combat, before you have had a chance to act (specifically, before your first regular turn in the initiative order), you are flat-footed.

"Except one thing the PHB says you stop being flat-footed when you have had the chance to act, that means that even if you delay you are not flat-footed after that point."

Ok, what about this scenario: surprise round- Lidda fires her crossbow at the troll and sneaks it- on initiative-count 18- and she hits (her partial action). The trolls screams in pain and try to hit her - on intiative count 8- but misses (the trolls partial action).

First regular round: Lidda backs up 15 feet and sneaks again -because the troll is still flatfooted until he can react on 8?

This would indicate that the troll would indeed be flatfooted even if he had the chance to act.
Is this by the rules ,or have I missed something vital here?

That's what I thought too, but it might not be a bad idea to allow delay to do this even if it's not. Makes it more useful :)

Really? I didn't think you could delay just the movement portion of you actions. Delaying seems to mean you delay your entire initiative. I don't have my books with me unfortunately, and I didn't see anything like this in the SRD:(

You are right! Sorry! It is a house rule we are using, ie that you can delay you move but not your action.

I like that house rule. Might make delay more useful and prevent those weird situations where you hit the guy and then he runs away and you can't catch up to him again.

What's the initiative count you use for the next round? The original one where he attacked or the delayed?

Where is this example from ? (I cannot find it in the PHB)

At this point, Lidda is no longer flat footed.

And actually, they are non-flatfooted at the START of the action rather than after they complete it.

I think that's a made up example where he's trying to get an opinion.

Basically, it seems wrong to give Lidda two sneak attacks even though the troll has taken an action.

Does not alter your initiative in our version if you only delay your move.
