Canada VS USA

oh, god.. the hangover didn't end untill about 4 PM today... I was raceing down this one street hanging out the back window of a car with a flag held over my head... I saw a bunch of guys (and two girls) standing on a patio with their shirts off and I AM CANADIAN spelled out on their chests (and midriffs respectively). It was like -20 out, just rediculous.

I'm with Nightfall on the Flyers

Gretzkey came out and said that he planned the tirade to try and take some heat off the squad. I'm not sure if the US media picked up on it but after the Sweden and German games the media (and faithless fans  ) just crucified the team, it was pretty brutal and Gretz needed to take the pressure off.

John Davidson mentioned it, but then again he knows Gretz from when he was a Ranger and was told personally by Waune that was the point.
I didn't bother reading or watching anything else sports related at the time so don't know if anyone else picked up on it.

How bout the looney at center ice, that was pretty cool!

What I want to know is how did it get there?

the zambonie driver was Canadian. He dug a little hole in the ice, put a loonie and a dime in, filled the hole the same way they fill any reasonable sized hole in the ice (with coloured ice chips) and drove a zambonie over it. Pretty simple actually...

Figured it had to be some sneaky Canadian, didn't think of that though (didn't think about it at all really). NBC showed it, but didn't bother to explain.

I suppose there's some satisfaction/vindication to be had in the fact that Sweden beat the gold medalists 5-2 :D

Seriously though, I'm happy for Canada--it just means so much more to you guys. Congratulations :)

Actually the team that built the ice from the beginning were from Edmonton (they have the best ice in the NHL). There was no center point of the ice so he marked it with a dime and then later added the loonie. The loonie's off to the Hockey Hall of fame and
the guy who made the ice kept the dime.

Incidently I went to the Canuck/St Louis game last night and I hate to say this but it was a little harder to watch. Too bad we'll never see a 6 team league ever again.

Go CANUCKS!!!

According to our local papers, the guy who planted the coins said he was expecting one of the Americans who he was working with to notice the coins before the game started, but none of them did. Also, I think people here would be making more noise about the ice team being from Northlands if it were so. We're proud of having the best ice in the league. (At least some of that comes from not having the best team in the league anymore.)

I watched the Flyers/Devils game on ESPN last (meaning Weds) and it was pretty good. Of course they're more talented than most teams. Brasehar made a great play to break up a three on one, and he wasn't the one. Beezer dstood on his head in his first game out of retirement, which Bill Barber predicted. And to top it all off the Devils lost two defensemen 25 minutes into the game (that's the bad part).

Forgot to add: And there was only one goal!

Since hockey is still on people's minds (which is cool, of course), I just want to add a little tid-bit...

Remember all that stuff about the American Women's Hockey Team putting the Canadian flag on their dressing room floor? Apparently it has been confirmed as being false. Just a pre-game rumour that got out of control. Maybe something the Canadian coach told her players to get them fired up. Who knows?

Anyway, just wanted to clear the air on that. Go Leafs!

Damn Todd there goes my fiery indignation at that act. It could just be propaganda to make it not look so bad ;)... whoops!
