Canting Crew Now Available

Realistically, how much did that 16-pages cost you? Seems like a waste to do an entirely seperate print run of a 250+ page book for 16 pages.

Howdy!

I actually like having both game mechanics in 1 book. It shows how you can convert generic gaming material into specific game mechanics. It also introduces different gaming systems to different audiences.

Problem is that it's not a 250+ page book. With the 16 pages missing it's something like 144. (160 otherwise.)

I loved the Jargon of the Canting Crew but the examples in the book are way too heavy in it's use. "My bone's fogged wigglers, tib of the buttery, bushdroppings in a bag, and a sneak of whet for wash." Yeah, okay, that's not more annoying than the Cant from Planescape! :-)

The signals were also good. Easy to understand and use. The signs and symbols were great. Easy to use and understand.

Joe-

Just be glad you didn't walk into a gaming session and get ambushed with the Cant. My poor kobold Enchanter (LA game sytem) got magically transported to this weird city-Ludnum. I was quickly confused and flustered by the use of jargon. It was a challenge to catch on to the lingo and I was motivated to read and use some of the Cant next session. If you want to shake up your group a little try and hit them with something like that. It is a role-playing challenge to step up and interact with these Land Lopers and not look like a Outcull.

I am running a thieves' guild campain. What I would have loved to have seen were plot hooks. Gary did a good job. I really dont care about more D20 rules. God knows we have enough spells and prestege classes running around. I love the cant section. The city section is OK, I guess I was expecting a bit more. but I'd give it a 'B'.

If gary would post some plot hooks that would be great.

Plot Hooks

Hey Bolen,

We have a Companion Book to the CC coming out, that has a little of what your looking for. It isn't quite the plug and play adventure hooks but rather a city setting with an adventure backdrop. There is a thieves' guild war going on, with a nice dose of assassins and undead. Heart comes with a fold out map of the city and plugs into any setting with relative ease.

It includes a great many of the pictograms from the CC and a little of the organizational material. You can check it out more at our website.

It sounds like you could drop your theives guild into the Heart with ease!

Thanks dude,
Steve:cool:

If I'd been less centered on the generic quality of the material, thinking less of the environment and more of the game, likely I'd have broken down and put in some adventure hooks and thus gotten an A from you, teach' ;)

Okay, I admit I was remiss in not doing that, but the fact is that I usually forget to do such added material. Long training of myself not to assume that other campaigns will be anything like my own, I suppose.

Wish I had time to sit down and compose a dozen or so, but I am way behind in schedule. Maybe Steve will nudge me in a couple of weeks, and I'll deliver something to him thereafter.

>Note to self: ADVENTURE HOOKS, ADVENTURE HOOKS, DUMMY!<

A New Setting

Things are dark and dire. The system of upper education has collapsed and now philosophers and academics must go forth to face perils far worse than college politics.

Can they use their esoteric knowledge to make the world a better place?

From Steve Gygax Games it's, THE KANTING CREW
