D&D 3E/3.5 Casters in Combat: AoO and possible 3.5 nerf?

Hey all,

While going through the new PHB, I noticed that it said that casters ALWAYS suffered AoO while casting in a threatened square. Maybe it was like this in 3.0, but I was wondering what you guys thought.

Does a caster now suffer AoO while trying to cast in a threatened square? In 3.0 we had the casters make a concentration check to avoid the AoO. Was that wrong?

If this is the case, then it makes it MUCH harder for a caster to cast, no matter their concentration score.

What do you think? Were we doing it wrong before, or is this a new 3.5 rule?

This hasn't changed... What you were doing before (& still can) is casting defensively... a higher DC of the Skill Concentration.
