casting characters(ot?)

First Post
instead of complaining about the last D+D movie, or dreading the next, let's pretend the gods shine and you and you get to cast it, at least 4 classes represented for every casting, and those of oyu who are into such things are free to go as far as naming director, gaffer, key grip and best boy.

also, let's assume (and hope) that the characters aren't all first level in the first scene, and fighting dragons in a week, let's try and assume it is a party, and one that has been together for a few levels.

paladin- benicio del toro. a lock, to heck with another blond guy with straight teeth. i wanna see a man struggling with faith and monsters and the chafey spots you get from sleeping in armor.

bard- bernie mac. sly, cool under pressure, funny when required. it may take some serious stuntwork to make him look dexterous at all, but that be done easier and better than beholder gaurd dogs.

rogue- helena bohnam carter. she would have to look as dark as she did for fightclub, but more period :)

wizard- forrest whittaker. he is a lock, he breaks a lot of conventions and has the look of a man obsessed with something.

druid- liam neeson. he wouldn't even have to speak much. he could just stand there and ooze woodsy guy.

Halfling Owner of the Tavern the "PC's" start in: Monte Cook

Quirky love interest for the Paladin: Reese Witherspoon

Grumpy ole High Priest who deals out quests: Micheal Palin

:p

Oh joy, my chance as casting director!

Paladin - Tim Roth. He could play a really great uptight code-of-conduct warrior.

Fighter - Val Kilmer. His stint as Madmartegan in Willow will forever solidify him as a fighter in my mind.

Barbarian - That Germanic friend of Maximus in Gladiator. He's huge and well....Germanic! He can get mad in his thick accent while swinging a great axe. That has action figure written all over it.

Bard - Harry Connick Jr. Good looking guy, decent actor, and can sing very well upon command.

Druid - Liv Tyler. We know she can pull off a fantasy role and she makes a good elf. Dress her in some animal skins and we're set. :D

Ranger - Daniel Day Lewis. Need I say more?

Cleric - Patrick Stewart. He can spout religious dogma in his classical acting style and cool commanding voice. "Let us rrrrrrrout the undead." and "make it so!"

So I guess I'm the only one who thinks the boys from In'Sync would be a good choice?

Rats.

Well, if I can't have them....

Fighter - Tough one. I'd almost go with Vin Diesel, not that I think he'd do a good job, but I don't see a D&D movie calling for a highly dramatic actor. Vin can do the stunts and he's certainly got the muscle. Besides, he's a gamer.

Ranger - Milla Jovovich. She's got that fey look about her that would carry over well. Besides, the only ranger who had a bunch of lines was Hank from the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. This is vital because there's no way Jovovich would take the role seriously and put any effort into it.

Rogue - I'd put in the guy who played Xander from the Buffy show. He can handle dialogue and the transition to movies is probably desireable for him.

Wizard - Halle Berry. Rowr!

I'm trying to wrap my mind around D&D being a movie. Of course, it already is one, but... ;)

I know that D&D has sort of iconic characters and certain premises kept through every kind of story played, but can roles be cast for characters who aren't fleshed out, just a set of abilities? Maybe casting the iconics would be easier? (after reading the new iconics book series) Reading the storyhours on the messageboards denotes the variety of stories and storytelling styles that D&D allows. Put Sepulchrave II's story on screen, that's what I'd like to see. :)

Eadric = a young James Earl Jones :)

LOL! Really? Where'd you hear that? I can't say that I picture him as the gaming type, but I've been surprised before?

Uh...so what system does he play?

I remember hearing that Jet Li and DMX were slated to be in the new one (which, I fully admit, bodes VERY well for a brainless action romp of fun!). Given that, I'd go:

Jet Li = Monk. This is kinda a no-brainer. ^_^
DMX = Bard. Also a bit of a no-brainer...

So, given that this is an action flick, I wonder what other action heroes we can have...

Vin Disel as the fighter!
Arnold Schwartzenegger as the Villian!
Harrison Ford as the Fallen Paladin!
Sly Stalone as the barbarian!

Too bad it leaves out the spellcasters...but heck, since it doesn't require the action time, just put some gussied up eye candy in a wizard's robes or priest's full plate, and have them wave around their hands and have impressive CG blow stuff up.

That's Ralph Moeller (sp?). He also played Conan on the short-lived tv series (which had a guest appearance by Mickey Rooney and featured that midget guy from Seifeld)

But I agree with most of your other choices too. Tim Roth is da man!

Here's my list (trying to keep it different too):

Jason Statham as your basic tough-as-nails fighter. I wasn't a big fan of The Transporter but he did a good job of the fight scenes in that movie.

Jennifer Garner as the Elven ranger. Yeah, she's kinda everywhere right now, but I think she would be great for the role.

Viggo Mortinsen as the cleric struggling with his faith. I could also see Sean Bean in this role.

Steve Buscemi as the thief. This is the type of character he is best at...comedy relief yet not two-dimensional.

Michelle Yeoh as the wizard. Kind of a waste of her physical talents, but I think she could provide the air of authority the role would require (although Halle Berry was a pretty good choice too!)

Ed Burns as the paladin. I'm not sure on this one, but I think he could play a non-stereotypical paladin.

I dont care what role she plays....just as long as she is in the movie. :D
