(OOC - Why, what kind of question is that?! I've never been...of course Death Otter rolled! It's...

...a 23 of course. Shocking. Just shocking.)

SURPRRISE ROUND

OOC: Because you anticipated the white Hummer H3, each of you gets a surprise round action. Please post at will and I will resolve actions according to initiative.

Initiative:
Otter 23
Cyril 18
J.R. 17
T-dawg 15
Feral 8
Hummer H3 1 (but not during surprise round)

The white Hummer H3 is stationary. Emblazoned on its sides is a business logo that says "Organized Productions." The Hummer has Florida license plates. Despite the dark glass on the Hummer's side windows, Otter and Feral make out four men inside the Hummer. There's a driver, a co-pilot in the front passenger seat, and two men in the middle row. J.R., Cyril, and T-dawg see only the driver and co-pilot from their vantage point inside the Taurus SHO. The Taurus SHO is currently stationary.

The Hummer's driver puts on his left turn signal. The Hummer's front wheels start to angle to the left, indicating the vehicle is about to swing out into the far left lane and move around the line of stopped cars.

The rail crossing has two long armbars that extend across the width of East Michigan Street. The armbars are currently in the upright raised position. There are also crossing lights at the rail crossing, but the lights are not flashing. The Hummer is the third vehicle in line in the middle lane. The left lane is unoccupied, but cars approaching from the east occasionally drive past the stopped cars, then proceed to cross the rail tracks. The right lane has three vehicles stopped in it.

[sblock=Vehicle Movement]The Hummer is size Huge and has a -2 size modifier. The Taurus SHO--a luxury sedan--is also size Huge and has a -2 size modifier.

At the beginning of each round, J.R. (the driver) must declare a vehicle speed category for the round. Vehicle speed categories for the Taurus SHO include: stationary, alley 20(2), street 50(5), highway 150(15), and all-out 200(20). The numbers that follow each vehicle speed category are the number of 5' squares the vehicle may move each round. The numbers in parentheses are the number of squares the vehicle may move during a car chase. Each round, the driver may choose to maintain the vehicle's speed, or go one speed category faster or slower than the vehicle's speed the previous round. A stationary vehicle can proceed to alley speed in either forward gear or reverse.

Please see Table 5-13: Vehicle Speeds and Modifiers, pp 156, for more information. If you do not have access to a hardcopy of the d20 Modern Core Rulebook, HERE is a link to the d20 Modern SRD (some but not all of the vehicle information is included in the SRD).[/sblock]

[sblock=Taurus SHO]The Taurus SHO is a luxury sports sedan. It seats five, can haul cargo weighing up to 4300 pounds (including passengers), has trunk space of 20 cubic feet, gets 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The SHO has Initiative -2, the maximum number of squares it can cover in 1 round at character scale is 200 squares. The maximum number of squares it can cover at chase scale is 20 squares. The SHO grants a +0 to maneuver on Drive checks made by its driver. It has Defense 8, Hardness 5, 34 hp, normally requires Lic (+1) to operate, and has a purchase DC of 32. If your character will be driving the SHO, please add these stats to your RG character sheet.[/sblock]

GM: MCSD 10

Hummer H3 (SUV) seats four, cargo up to 6500 pounds, trunk space 30 cubic feet, Initiative -2, Maneuver -2, Top Speed 140(14), Defense 8, Hardness 5, 38 hp, size Huge, Purchase DC 34, requires Lic (+1).

OOC: Feral and J.R. are near the Hummer, yes?

Feral improvises a bit and runs up to the Hummer, grabbing the spare tire and climbing on.

OOC: Spending an action point for crazy action movie shenanigans here. Would this be a Jump skill check or a Climb or an attack roll or what?

T-dawg gets out of the passenger seat, and moves to the rear of the SHO, pretending to be opening the boot to retrieve tools/spare tire/etc. He keeps an eye on the Hummer however, ready to step out in front of it if it looks like it's trying to pass the stopped vehicle.

OOC: I can't recall if you can move and ready an action in d20 modern. If so, that's what T-dawg is doing. If not, he'll just move in the surprise round and ready in the next round (probably, depending on what people are doing).

Cyril was about to pratfall in the street and fake a seizure when Feral and J.R. decided to go all The Warriors on the Hummer. With little else to do, the former lawyer moved to the driver's door of the SHO, prepared to attempt a speedy get-away if things went down the way he expected.
