D&D 5E CB's Stonefast IC -- COMPLETE

The sound of fisticuffs and the clang of metal rang louder in the close quarters of the room, droning out the fountain's burbling. Whatever fight was going on, it was occurring somewhere down the newly opened hall that lead to the east.

Guran glances at Father Spec in front of him; then he reaches up to clap the man on the shoulder, and quietly points ahead in the direction of the battle sounds. If Spec advances to take a look, Guran follows; or if Spec stays there, Guran squeezes past him and goes to the dogleg at the end of the short hallway, where he tries to remain hidden from whatever is ahead of him while he sticks his head out briefly into the continuing hallway, just to the north of where he stands, and takes a good look at what's going on beyond.

Spec lets Guran go in front of him, as he replaces the lock picks. "Sorry, old chap," he says as Guran passes.

Spec follows 10' behind (if someone else steps in front of him, he'll wait for the distance again, since he knows he is not stealthy.)

Guran trundled forward on cat feet. He stood in the dogleg and ever so cautiously leaned his head around the corner to get a better look. The east and west doors to a medium-sized room were flung open. Guran could see passably well into the room--even though it lay in utter darkness--but the doors were not flat against the wall and partially obscured his line of sight. The clear rattle and clank of battle echoed from the room into the hallway. It appeared to Guran that four orcs had cornered a medium-sized spider sporting metal barding. Judging by the bit in the spider's maw, someone intended the beast as a mount.

The orcs were hard at it, attacking the cornered spider. As Guran watched, one of the orcs used a greataxe to hack off one of the spider's mandibles. The spider hissed and lunged forward, biting in revenge.

OOC: The orcs have given no sign that they've spotted Guran. If you wish, you can catch them surprised.

Guran steals back toward the others. He stops at the doorway, pulls the door most of the way shut (toward him), but leaves just enough space for his head to stick through the opening. Sticking his head through the opening, he says to the others -- in a high-pitched voice that he hopes will be muffled by the thickness of the door, since high pitches are more readily blocked by barriers -- "Four orcs fighting a large spider. Get 'em, right?" He nods to the others he can see, hoping they will choose to advance along with him.

He leaves it to the others to open the door again, then advances toward the (whatchamacallit? Mouth? Arena?) room where the orcs are fighting, and tries to hide behind the partially-open door near the orcs.
OOC: I'm treating his partial closing of the door as his action; but his Speed of 25 might let him get that far back, then forward to just outside the fight room. Since this is both a move and an action, I'm guessing he doesn't use up any Surprise round yet. If the orcs notice his doing this, then he has wasted the element of surprise.

Guran crept down the hallway and took cover behind the partially open door leading to the room where the orcs cornered the barded riding spider. Roscoe was hot on Guran's heels. Roscoe didn't have the benefit of cover, and he was highly visible from his stance in the hallway, but at the moment the orcs seemed engrossed in their attack. Both Guran and Roscoe became aware of a shuffling sort of sound emanating from the other side of the partially open doorway; something or someone lay in wait just beyond the door. From the sound of it, two somethings or someones--one on each side of the open door, tucked carefully inside the room out of sight.

Spec stood in the crook of the hallway, and admired the smoothness of the walls' joinery. His eyes scanned the floor, wall, and ceiling, and lit on an uneven bit of grout running between three stone blocks on the ceiling. A ceiling panel lay directly over his head, he was sure of it! If it was anything like the other ceiling panel the group encountered, it would slide to the side to admit access.

Colden and Fulgrim similarly edged forward. Colden stood on the east side of the door, Fulgrim on the west. Both Colden and Fulgrim had remained alert to intrusion from the rear, but neither had detected anything coming from behind.

OOC: You still have the element of surprise. Should you wish to act on it, now would be the time. Once surprise actions are resolved, we'll move to combat round 1, so please provide an initiative roll in your next statement.

Colden kept an ear out for ambush, the of movement from within the room was disctracting but he made sure he kept an eye out for crossbow wielding kobolds coming out from walls and ceilings.

Father Spec notices the sliding panel above him, and decides instantly to try out the rope that he had recently received. He knew it was magic and that it was sticky. He hoped that by simply pressing it over the fissure that he saw, back and forth, the rope would be resistant enough to prevent the panel from sliding to the side. It wouldn't even need a knot given the natural stickiness. If needed he could press the rope along the seal, using the edge of his shield to help him reach.

Once secured, he proceeds towards the orcs.

OOC: Surprise round: attempt to secure panel with rope, as if with magical packing tape. If it looks like it will hold he leaves it, hoping to prevent them being ambushed from above. Otherwise, his actions will have indicated to those behind what he sees.
