CE vs. N (FFA): Very Young Howling Dragon vs. Thunder Worm

The puny archer fires and hits (rolled 20) for 5 points of damage. Orc is at 0 HP.
Orc takes a 5-foot step and hits (rolled 13) for 8 points of damage, but the puny archer seems to roll with some of the blow and only takes 4 points of damage. Puny archer is at 1 HP, and orc is at -1 HP and dying.

Next for CE: a planetouched (tiefling) (MM). Go ahead, tief.

Tiefling savvy

This one'll be a little more complicated. The tiefling enters directly opposite the Elan with a loaded light crossbow in one hand. Experimentally, he takes a 5' step towards her, fires a bolt at her, and reloads.

If the Tiefling fails to drop her and is himself damaged, rather than firing again next round, he picks up a pebble from the area floor (or breaks off the head of a bolt if a pebble is ruled unavailable) and creates darkness on the pebble, surrounding himself with concealing darkness. (20% concealment)

The following round, he clutches the pebble tightly in his hand (blocking the emanation and the concealment, MEA?) fires (standard), 5' steps forward and drops the pebble or otherwise releases the emanation again if allowed as a free action.

(I can get a lot done when one of you is on at the same time as I am.)

(I am on Pacific Time. What time are you on?)

Tiefling misses (rolled 9-4=5 for longer range). Puny archer (who should now be called big archer, considering Tiefling's size) also misses (rolled 4-2=2 for long range), and moves to 95N95E.

I have to assume Tiefling did not have shield ready (or you drop it this round), or you could not load your crossbow. Tiefling hits (rolled 15-2=13 for long range) for 6 points of damage. Puny archer is at -5 and dying. In her dying breath, she groans, "I knew I shouldn't have moved closer...arggh...gurgle" Tiefling is still at 0N0E.

A dwarf clad in scale mail and holding a short bow comes into the arena at 0N115E and moves to 0N100E. He also has an axe at his belt, and a shield on his back. He fires, hitting (rolled 16-2=14 for long range) Tiefling's foot for 1 point of damage.

Tiefling has 4 HP left and it is his turn to act.

Die, dwarf.

Plan as above. Fire and reload, fire and reload. Use the darkness if I get more seriously injured. Make the dwarf come to me if it wants to melee.

(I'm on CST, but the times where I can sit and internet are at odd hours.)

Tiefling misses badly (or misses well, if that was what he was going for).
Kron hits for 2. Tiefling has 2 HP left, and should be feeling very lucky now.

Tiefling cranks up his crossbow, then is surrounded by shadowy darkness.
Kron puts away his bow, and takes his shield out while moving to 0N80E. "Annoying creature. Come out and fight like a dwarf!"

The darkness goes away momentarily, and Tiefling fires one-handed, missing badly. Tiefling moves to 0N5E and is in darkness again.
Kron takes out his waraxe and moves to 0N60E, bobbing and weaving.

Tiefling cranks up the crossbow and fires, hitting barely for 7 points. Kron is at -1 HP and dying. "Killed by a skulking coward. How humiliating"

Note to Gansk. That Darkness is going to be there for another 98 rounds centered at 0N5E.

A nondescript human clad in studded leather and holding a light crossbow moves to 0N90, attempting to dodge Tiefling's bolts. He also has a short scabbard at her side.

Tiefling fires and misses. Bob moves to 0N60E, still trying to dodge.
Tiefling misses again. Bob fires, missing also, then reloads.

Tiefling hits for 7. Bob is at -3 and dying. "Well, that's the way it goes". Tiefling has 11 bolts remaining.

What looks like a cross between a squid and a stalactite comes flying into the arena to 0N90E5Z. It then becomes enshrouded in shadowy darkness. (Two can play at that game).

Do you keep firing, Tiefling?

Where's the move action to pick up the pebble/prepare the bolt head?

Oops. I think we can rule that clutching the bolt head is a free action instead of a MEA so that he cranks up the crossbow the following round.

OK, if he uses the bolt head then I can weasel out of keeping the darkness in the arena, because his equipment is teleported away with him.

I assumed he used a bolt head, because the ground is hard-packed earth (no pebbles). I accounted for the used bolt head when I gave inventory of how many bolts were left.

I forgot about equipment being teleported out. I thought it would be kind of amusing to have a zone of darkness last for a long time.
