D&D 5E celebrating pride and lgbtq+ players 2021

Learning French for work, and their gendering of inanimate objects drives me batty. Like, calling a car "she" in English is a cultural thing, but "un voiture" is linguistically wrong, and that is so difficult to get used to.
And don't get me started on their numbering system.
Y'all are making me want to try learning Finnish now.

It's notable that nobody who tries to argue against the singular they advocates for neopronouns like xe/xer, which would presumably solve their explicitly stated issues.

That's because it's not the English language that confuses and irritates them.

It's people like me.

Wanna know why several, but not many, objects are "She", but no "He" objects, in English?

You're gonna haaaaaate iiiiiit.

You may be a little out of the loop, then, because this is the 4th year that WotC has made special Pride D&D shirts. For this year:

I'll admit, these are good-looking shirts...the d20 one is my favorite. There's lots of cool-looking Pride merch for sale this month from all kinds of companies, and I think it's wonderful. I like that visibility is increasing for LGBTQIA+ communities.

But as I was writing this post, my wife made an interesting point about how "Rainbow capitalism" is a thing.

So when you purchase Pride merchandise, take a few moments to learn a bit about the company you are buying it from. Find out if they actively support LGBTQIA+ people and issues. That Pride d20 shirt a good-looking t-shirt and I'm thinking about buying one, and all profits will go to The Lambert House fundraiser: their goal is to raise $500,000 by the end of September so that they can purchase the lease on their headquarters building. That's a really good cause.

Anyway. The conversation about representation and inclusion in our hobby needs to go much deeper than a trendy, seasonal purchase. I mean, if you like the t-shirt you should buy the t-shirt. But also consider donating your time and money to a LGBTQIA+ nonprofit in your community, and support them year-round.
