Actually, Chain Spell doesn't work with enervation.
The spell must 'specify a single target.' Enervation doesn't specify any targets, it has instead Effect: Ray. Although a Ray spell usually only affects one target, it is not the same as a spell with Target: Single Creature. For example, you can fire a ray into a crowd without specifically picking a target; if your intended target has cover the ray migh affect the cover (be it a person or not); you can fire a ray into thin air, darkness where you can't see any opponent, at an inanimate object, etc.
