Chainmail Bikini: AC or Cha bonus?

So I suppose a discussion of AC/CHA benefits for jewel-encrusted metal codpieces is right out then? Just to be fair to the ladies, of course. :D

Censorship again?

Ok, it's time to chime in.

First, not every campaign is set in the frigid north wastelands where people need to wear 72 layers of clothing to survive.

Second, chainmail bikini's are clothing, except for the fact that they 'might' prevent some cutting of the soft, fatty, ductile flesh of the chest.

3rd, without insulting anyone, I'd just like to note that there's been a lot of talk of conservative censorship around again lately and it gets a fair bit annoying. This discussion touches on the subject of _fantasy_ clothing as a form of artwork and we all know that one thing that appeals to someone is often scoffed at by another who doesn't understand it (or who has a personal, religous, or philosophical bias against it).

This forum has demonstrated excellent standards of moderation thus far and I'd expect that people can continue to talk in a civilized manner about 'chainmail bikini's' without resorting to misunderstood calls for 'blacking out' the discussion material.

Sometimes this infamous artifact been written into books.

Anyone remember Cure Of The Azure Bonds? The Clyde Caldwell cover features the female protagonist wearing something between a chain shirt and what you might see at a Hollywood awards ceremony. (To be fair, the weird dinosaur guy behind her is wearing less.) The armour got written into the book, and was never meant to offer protection - it was for use in a sacrifice (open in the right place, after all), and was specifically described as pretty useless.

On a more obscure note: there was a book based on the Bard's Tale computer games (I forget the title). The Elmore cover portrayed, amongst other people, a female warrior wearing typically skimpy clothing. When, inside the book, the hero comments on her attire, the character replies that it's not encumbering and allows her to distract opponents. That's probably as good as it gets, people. If you've got a monstrous DEX, one of these is probably in order (no max dex), but otherwise... you're getting into the murky waters of 'distraction' bonuses. And they won't work against wolves, anyway.

Finally... there was a cartoon in Dragon magazine a while ago that really says it all as far as I'm concerned. I've never attached an image before... let's see if it shows up.

I hate to distract people from fun and frivolity and remind them of the rules...however.

If you can wear a bracer that increases your armor class, because of it's magical properties, then why not have your friendly neighborhood magic item creator, make you a:

Chain Mail Bikini with matching chain embossed pleated leather skirt, ac +10, cha +6. It'd be pricey...but why not? Make it as a "wonderous item" not armor.
