Challenge to WotC: Initiative

First Post
So, by this time some of the rules have to be pretty well firmed up, right?

So here's my challenge to WotC: Sometime within the next week (7 days) tell us how Initiative will work in 4e. That should be a pretty small thing to reveal, right? I imagine that "Just like 3.5" is the answer.

But, just think, the next time someone says "We haven't gotten any solid mechanics yet," you can answer "What about initiative"?

I don't know if it's just me, but... I feel like WotC has enacted a blackout about 4e since three or four weeks. When was the last time we learned something about this game ?

I'm kind of hoping it's SAGA-style. I liked that. It meant that high-level badasses were, y'know, more on the ball than less experienced fighters. And that's cool.

Initiative will be familiar to anyone who has played a role-playing game. But will be easier and funner, make life simpler for the DM, and give players more options.

A few days ago. We learned that aggro mechanics will not be in the game. Look how much fun and positivity and excitement for 4e that caused. :)

Oh? Are we listing things that won't be in the game?

Pretty sure there won't be rules for bulldozers (sleeping minotaurs? ), M16s, fighter jets, and El trains. Of course, I could be wrong. D&D has had rules for them before.

EDIT: BTW, the Warlord controversy has me flummoxed. How do we know a better alternative isn't easy to come by? For all we know, the best name for the 4e Warlord might be "swashbuckler". It would be easier to come up with an alternate name that fit the mechanics if the mechanics were at least outlined. I was also thinking about Myrmidon (like the kit in 2e).

Heh. If you don't work for WotC, you should.

Only to illustrate how amusing these boards would become if they started revealing things that will be. ;)

I'm sure there is someone in this community who would get rather upset to learn that M16's aren't in. Or that Rich Baker made a joke about fighter jets being in the game, even though they won't be.

actually, when did we learn something "concrete" about the game?

Design & Development columns come in two flavors: "Hey, we changed X rule" or "Hey, we changed Y flavoraspect" so far, the Y's outnumber the X's in such things. For example, knowing the succubus changed to a devil is a flavor element; it doesn't tell us anything more about her mechanical elements or even WHAT that change means (does she have different immunities, powers, alignment?)

The last major release of info from WotC was the "grab the d20 and roll high" Ds&Dv column. It told us about the (widely assumed) flip on saving throws to save defenses. Unfortunately, WotC is more content to name-drop (Man, Divine Challenge is AWESOME), allude (my warlord kept the fighters in the combat) and even mislead (wait, the warlock is a striker?) but not give us a solid bit of info.

I don't need numbers, formula, or even examples, I'd just like to known what's changed and what's not!
