New Feats:

Greater Weapon Focus (General)

Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, Weapon Focus and Improved Weapon Focus with selected weapon, fighter level 16th.

Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make using the selected weapon. This bonus stacks with other bonuses on attack rolls, including the ones from Weapon Focus and Improved Weapon Focus.

Special: You can gain Greater Weapon Focus multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon. A fighter must have Greater Weapon Focus with a given weapon to gain the Greater Weapon Specialisation feat for that weapon. A fighter may select Greater Weapon Focus as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Balance-wise I think they're fine. I pity the poor Fighter who has Weapon Focus (WF), Weapon Specialization (WS), Improved WF, Improved WS, Greater WF, Greater WS, Improved Critical - 7 feats - and then is forced due to circumstances to use a different weapon.
 

I was supprised they did not make the greater versions in 3.5 slightly better other than that they stacked. I would have made them as follows...

WF: +1 to attack
WS: +2 to damage
IWF: +2 to attack (total +3)
IWS: +4 to damage (total +6) and add requirement of improved critical
GWF: +3 to attack (total +6)
GWS: +6 to damage (total +12)

EWF: +4 to attack (total +10)
EWS: +8 to damage (total +20)

And all of them stack. That way it is a real reason to stay fighter 20. For as high a level it is I dont feel it is out of line. Barbarian rage is much better than Fighter feats at almost every level it seems.
 

How about allowing thses instead?

Weapon Mastery

Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, and Greater Weapon Specialization with selected weapon, fighter level 16th.

Benefit: When making an attack with the selected weapon you may make one extra attack at your highest base attack bonus.


Weapon Grand Mastery

Prerequisites: Proficiency with selected weapon, Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical,and Weapon Mastery with selected weapon, fighter level 20th.

Benefit: When using the selected weapon its base damage is increased to that of a weapon one size larger(a medium longsword's base damage would be 2d6) and the crit. modifier increases by 1(longsword's becomes x3).
 

There should be a list of high-level fighter abilities that can be taken in place of feats, rather like the high-level rogue abilities. Greater weapon focus and specialization already are such- they can only be taken by fighters, so I'm not terribly certain why they appear in the feat list. Let them be taken at like 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th levels.

I'm planning on using one like that "weapon grand mastery" one, only general. Call it Improved Armed Combat; any weapon you use gets one size increase (essentially). So a high-level fighter can be as dangerous with anything as a low-level fighter is with his favored weapon.
