Character Background book

I wonder if anyone can help me here. I had a book that is about 13-14 years old. I cannot remember the title or the publisher. The book was a generic Character Background generator. The book had charts and tables where you roll dice and randomly determine aspects of your characters backgrounds, from birth events to young adulthood.

The cover was mostly blue and featured three images of a female character. The first image was her as a baby with a dragon birthmark on her face. Then as a child playing with a winged serpent creature, then as an adult casting a spell. It wasn't a D&D book, was designed to be 'generic' in nature and easily adaptable to most RPG systems.

Does anyone know this book? What is the title?

Oops sorry. I was thinking and thinking and thinking and could not remember the title of the book in question. Almost immediately after submitting this topic, POP, the title appeared in my head. Duh. The book I was talking about is Central Casting: Heroes of Legend. :D

Yes, a good book. I have it, and have used it in my D&D campaign. Obviously you have to futz a lot to deal with a system that already deals with skills, but I've used it to torment my players to no end ...

Central Casting

Aye, it's not too bad. It does produce some quite 'high fantasy' characters though, and may not be to some groups' tastes -- certainly not for my usual group, our DM is as grim'n'gritty as a RuneQuest ref.
