Character Creation Rut

I hope this is the right forum to post this in...

Anyway, here's my story:
I just moved back to the city I left about a year ago (to travel) and have been invited to join the campaign a small bunch of my friends play in.

To join I, of course, have to make a character and here's where the trouble started.
I couldn't think of a character. I have been thinking and thinking for close to a week now and no character or concept has sprung to mind.

So I felt that I should turn to the creative ENWorld collective and ask for help.

Here's the skinny on the party and campaign;

Right now it consists of 3 characters. A Drow/Half-fiend Rogue, a Human Fighter (close combat/tank + he also has a couple of Cleric levels (don't know how many)) and an Aasimar Sorcerer.
They started out as 4th level characters and are now 17th level (well, the Rogue is fairly new, the player had a Halfling Rogue before this one).

The campaign is set in the Forgotten Realms setting.
Recently they have just finished Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and gained some titles and land in Cormyr. They were also given Lordship of Tilverton.

The party started out as an evil party, but now only the Rogue is evil (NE I think) while the other two have migrated to neutral (with some good tendencies here and there).

So, this is the campaign I have to make a character to.
Here are the rules I can use:

Race: Core books + FRCS (- any of the Genasi races)
Class: Any (- psionics) - I think any book is a go as long as I can find someone with a copy of it so the DM can have a look at it.
Prestige Classes: Any (see above)
Level: 17th

A character that is somewhat different from the others would, of course, be ideal, but any ideas are appreciated.

I think that's it.

I hope some of the creative minds around here would like to help out and give some suggestions for characters.

TIA

Well, I don't know if it would work, but what about a cleric or even a paladin who decides to join and try to more fully "convert" them? :)

On second thought, that's probably a bad idea likely to lead to conflict. But I was thinking a character with a bit more of a conscience might act as a "foil" to the rogue. He or she would have to have a flexible enough moral compass, though, that the party wouldn't get torn up as a result.

How about:

A planar vagabond. Ranger/Horizon Walker/Shadowdancer with a magic item that lets him wander planes whenever he feels like it, and a ring of sustenance is a must. Favored enemy: evil outsiders, or whatever else tickles your fancy. Probably a CN character, so you could pull the party in a completely new direction. Might act as a character foil to push them towards the good.

An awakened animal druid. There's so much fun to be had with that! Add in leadership for a veritable army of awakened animals. He seeks to liberate animals from the yoke of humanoid domestication. Probably another CN character, come to think of it.

The lack of natureyness in the group made me think of those immediately:)

Hmm, interesting. I sort of see him as an almost bard-like character, flamboyant and perhaps just a little nuts.

Now THAT'S funny! :D
The others would hate me, but that's really funny

Ooh, ooh! Come check out my Awakened Animal thread over in General Monster Talk!

Want to play an awakened tiger / Brb7? Or maybe an awakened heavy warhorse / Mnk10, with a Ftr cohort on it's back? How about My Little Pony... My Little awakened war Pony / Necromacer 12, of course! :D

Drop on by, and come sample the goods...

Bard works for Horizon Walker... :)

There's some pretty spiffy abilities on that prestige class! Not necessarily worth the opportunity cost, but it's got fun flavour at any rate!

*grin*
There are tons of more serious examples of awakened animals in literature: Aslan from the Narnia chronicles, any of the protagonists from Aesop's fables, Pixel the cat from Heinlein's books, Animal Farm...

Archmage

Ignoring the much appreciated silliness, I'd reccomend a LN Human Wizard 10/Archmage 7. By this point the character would be a force to be reckoned with--you get to skip all the crappy low level stuff.

To give him life, make him the former advisor to the king of Calimsham (Sort of an out of work Merlin), or an eunuch former slave from Mulhorand. Heck make him someone rejected by the Harpers, so he has an extreme distate for them. Better yet, make him all three.

To introduce him to the campaign, make him the enemy of the other PC's enemies. Use the maxim, "The enemy of mine enemy is my friend."

Just my two florins worth,

Sparxmith
