Characters In Games You've played in...

Well, like most of you I’ve had many characters over the years. The ones that are most important to me would have to be my very first and my last. Yobe the wizard was my first. It was the spring/summer of 1988 and my parents took my sister and I out of school early that year so we could move from Los Angeles to the then unknown deserts of San Bernardino. There I met a few new friends and, well, you get the rest.

My last character I played was by no means the last character I created: He was just my favorite. I rolled him up in the summer of 1991, and played him off and on until 1994 when he retired comfortably. His name was Keldorn Mithrilaxe son of Bollor, son of Durin, champion of Moradin, and defender of dwarven kind. AKA “Kuld,” (which meant Axe in the dwarven language written by Ed Greenwood thanks to Dwarves Deep).

Sadly, since then I’ve always GMed. Hope to play a PC again soon…

I run two games currently with slightly overlapping plotlines (the players in the Ravenloft campaign are encountering NPCs who were briefly brushed with during the homebrew campaign). I think I managed to do it subtely enough no one's noticed yet, though, which is pretty hot.

Homebrew campaign:

Human Male Paladin 10
Elf Cleric/Divine Archer (Homebrew PrC) 6/4
Snow Elf (personal variant) Sorc. 8/Lore Master 2
Half-Orc Ninja/Ninja Spy (7?/3)
Tiefling Wizard (from being Reincarnated in Ravenloft) Wizard 9.

Ravenloft

This game has comparatively just started. Not half the crazy of the other one.

Human Bard 3
Halfling Cleric 3
Human Hexblade 2/Swashbuckler 1
Human Rogue 3
Human Paladin 3
Elan Psion (Telepath) 3

For me that's largely because I've banned most of the d20 OGL material (Mongoose being a big target) because I find in general it isn't as well balanced as the WoTC stuff. There are also more & better resources for the WoTC material in the event I have questions on a board, and I can keep up with it very easily. I have the entire collection, and I pre-order each months new releases. I swear they must have a corner for people like me, where they just stack the few hundred (thousand?) pre-orders they KNOW they'll get.

The Sword & Sorcery material I allow in general without a lot of hesitation, especially since much of the Ravenloft material by S&S & Arthaus is underpowered compared to some other PrCs, and there are things here and there I've outlawed (Radiant Servant of Pelor, I'm lookin' at you, you unbalanced bastard). Monte Cook's stuff (Hallowed Might, Complete Eldritch Might) edges more often towards balance than unbalance IMHO, but I allow it in general.

For classes, though, there are so many now (with the original 10 core classes, plus the restructured material from the Complete books, plus any of over 100 PrCs) that I never felt a need to break outside of that. I'm also fortunate that I have a bunch of players who are willing to abide by RAW without a lot of debate, which makes things that much easier.

I've never actually played more than three or four full sessions in my life; I'm a thoroughbred DM, cut from the whole cloth. Enjoy it; the loyal player base that makes running possible, and the looks on their faces when you hook them, are the two most priceless things you can have when you're sitting in that chair.

and

human druid 12 formerly wood elf now not with party
human paladin 9 also not with party
human cleric 9 dead (now a bodak buried in the Underdark in a bag of holding)

Too bad our eeevil-everything goes (free ECL of up to 3 with no actual ECL) campaign never kicked off:

Deep Gnome (Svirfneblin) archer (dont know exact class)
Half-Ogre Barbarian
Drow Cleric (actually 1st level 3.0E ranger cheese for two-weapon fighting)
Grey Orc Cleric (FR race that gets + to wisdom, moi)
Ice Dwarf Rogue

Can you say cheese? ;) We unfortunately played only one session and then lost the DM. It seemed like great fun! Thats not current though, we've kept to the standard races then..

I'm s urprised no note on the OD&D campaign. Are the characters still 1st level? I recall some mention of low level gaming and that they had't advanced in a while. Could be misremembering though.
