Charge - To nearest square? Huh?

Of all possible routes, the corner is the shortest. Thus, it's allowed.

Anything else is house ruling.

If you don't like that you can charges without it a required straight line, I can't say I disagree with that, but it's allowed.

It says "move directly to the closest square" not "take the shortest route". Going around a corner is not moving directly to the closes square. Going through the wall would be, and since you can't do that, you can't do the charge (of course you can always use a move action to get past the corner, and then your standard to charge, as previously mentioned).

Also, you might want to read the forum guidelines before you throw around statements to the effect of "My interpertation is the only correct way and anything else is a house rule". It's a good way of getting moderated. (It's the "Please remain Civil" post at the top of the forum, specifically the post by Morrus. http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-4th-edition-rules/234834-please-remain-civil-folks.html)

Seriously, don't be a jerk. Just because someone reads a rule differently than you do, doesn't mean you are right and they are using an undeclared house rule.

You could simply be wrong (as you are in this instance). :p

I too recall pre-release info stating you didn't need straight lines to charge anymore.

Do you have a link or anythign official? I'd be interested in seeing it, because I don't recall anything like that (other than being able to move into position and then charge, which you could not do in 3.5)

Another thing to keep in mind is that pre-release rules info may no longer be accurate, things were changing up to the print date, and there was a lot of rules changes after the books were released. I personally don't find pre-release rules quotes very useful, although I'm sure others might.

It is my opinion you have severely overreacted to my post.

Suggesting that you check the forum guidelines when you have clearly violated them is "overreacting"? Interesting. :)

I did not clearly violate them. Stating a matter of fact, when you believe it to be so is not violate. I have supporting evidence - one of which I posted.

If you choose not to believe that, such is your perogative.

I will not respond if you continue this sub-discussion. Being civil includes everyone, not just me.

The forum guidelines that I directed you to (specifically the last post by Morrus), states:

We've received a query regarding a certain type of behaviour. I'll quote the email here, but not identify the member who asked it - and then I'll address the issue.

"...Namely, labelling other people's interpretations as house rules. This is the opening insult in nearly every contested thread..."

We consider this to be rude behaviour, and will moderate it as such. Please feel free to report instances of this.

If you can not see how you crossed the line, then you will probably be surpised and shocked when you get moderated for it at some point in future. I haven't reported you, I am just trying to give you a friendly warning. Very civil of me, or so I thought (apparently I was mistaken).
