Charm + Teleport = A Very Long Fall

Proposed tactic:

Sorceress casts Charm Person on a BBEG, moves in and teleports them both (since he's now willing) to some place rather high up in the air (the sorc having cast fly on herself) and drops the BBEG.

Given that the BBEG fails his save vs a level one spell, I'd still say he'd get a reflex save to make a grapple check to keep from getting dropped.

What think you?

May work. But at that level, BBEG may have some kind of flying spells or items. He could activate it before he hits the ground. And if the sorcerer escape the grapple and let BBEG fall, the charm will end.

Also, the maximum damage from falling is 20d6. The sorcerer (of 10+ level, he is using teleport spell) is spending at least two turns to inflict this. With 2 activations, he can do much nastier things (say, casting two empowered fireballs).

Yeah, grappling is really, really hard on Wizards.

Even worse on Sorcerers since by RAW they cannot use their still and silent metamagic feats to get out of grapples. Feh and Pah upon the RAW I say! :)

Here's something even more fun to do to the (non-fire-immune) BBEG with Charm+Teleport, and it doesn't matter if he can grapple you:

First, get some way to become immune to fire, including Polymorphing into a fire subtype creature, or what have you. Then carefully study a lava-filled chamber deep inside an active volcano. Now go fight the BBEG and Charm+Teleport your new friend into the lava. BAM--complete submersion and 20d6 damage per round.

So you're using a 1st level spell, a 5th level spell and two rounds that inflict 20d6 damage assuming that the BBEG fails a trivially easy Will save? Fine. I'll stick with my Scorching Rays.

If you allow to involve another spell, it is much better to use Water Breathing and then teleport into a deep water (ocean, lake, etc.) That way, the villain can't cast spells with verbal components. He cannot activate most of the magic items, too.

Not that he could do any of those things 200 feet under the surface of a pool of molten lava either. Still, underwater or under-lava, a long fall is the least of what a creative PC can do to a willing NPC with teleport (heck, you could teleport straight up into space if you have a necklace of adaptation, and then just leave 'em there).

That's why I actually consider taking Sudden Silent for my Sorceress... ;)

Seems like a lot of set-up for a single kill. I see charm as being more of an obstacle to the success of this tactic than where to precisely drop the BBEG.

It's like discussing what you are going to spend the lottery money on...you have to win first.

If the BBEG isn't a humanoid, it'll require a 4th level spell (charm monster), then again to make sure the BBEG doesn't escape with a pesky will save vs. a level 1 or 4 spell, you may want to heighten it even further just to make sure.

But sure, it's not some easy to do instant kill that takes a surprise action to put into play, so I'd say it's alright by the rules.

Actually, that would be a House Rule (although fairly common from what I understand). There's nothing in the Underwater Combat/Spells rules that place any restriction on verbal components or item activation.
