Chess and diagonals

I'm still fuzzy on castling myself.
The Vancian spellcastling system is outdated and largely unpopular. Once a game isn't particularly flexible or fun for people. They're removing it for the next edition, replacing it with a system where castling works off a "per turn" system.

Please, not the 'per turn' and 'per game' powers. Next you're going to tell me that pawns get 6+con 'reappearing surges', where they come back on the board on the round after they have been captured, all because nobody wants to play the bishop. :D

Chaturanga (6th century AD) is the only true chess. All other versions are just poor imitations of the real thing.

Grognard!

I'm going to try to remain open to the next edition of chess, as long as the rules remain Open Source. I should be able to have access to canon without having to spend $100!

Eh, last month my friends I went back to checkers, and we're having a blast with it! No more worrying about which piece is more powerful, and who can do what. It's surprisingly easy to convert backwards - the board is actually usable as is, and if you just strip away the ridiculous powers that the chess pieces have accumulated over the years, it's a snap to play the loose, freewheeling game of checkers I remember from when I was 14 years old. We're definitely not going to this new edition, that's for sure. Although, I understand that TLG is coming out with a game that takes the best parts of chess and the old checkers, and it's really versatile - right out of the box, you can use it to play Monopoly or Chutes&Ladders with just a little bit of tweaking!

Rock/paper/scissors FTW: the only game that was ever truly non-symmetrically balanced for all possible play options... at least until the splatbooks ruined it, of course.
