Chicago Area FLGS

Hello. I've recently moved to the South Suburban Chicago area from the Twin Cities.

Back in the good ol TC I frequented a place called "Source Comics & Games". This place has a fantastic selection of everything, and was quite large. IN particular I relished the huge wall of miniatures and the very good variety of old and new RPG's and Boardgames.

Now that I'm in the Chicago area, I'm searching desperately for something that compares well.

So far my few forays into the wilderness have turned up little that reminds me of home. I was wondering if some of you on here who are familiar with the area (or live here) would give me your advice? Even better if you are familiar with where I am coming from as well!

Thanks! And I hope this is an OK forum for this, I didn't see any place that seemed a better fit.

What you're looking for is Games Plus in Mt. Prospect. One of the best FLGS in the US.

There's also the Gamers' Paradise chain, which has stores in the city and suburbs, and even a Wizard's store in Orland Park, iirc.

If you are looking for a gaming group theres a good one starting to form that plays right in downtown. I'll be leaving in a month but would gladly contact them with you if you were interested.

Email me at nxm205@psu.edu and say that you were looking for the contact. My name is Nick

buzz : Thanks for the Games Plus tip. I'll go check them out!

sithramir : Thanks for the info, but some of my group from MN moved here before me, and we've already got a good start on a new group.

Go to Games Plus... it... it's an amazing store. It's a 30 minute freeway drive north for me, but you know, I'd drive 2 HOURS to get there and buy stuff. thalmin and the staff there are friendly, incredibly helpful, and happy to have you in their store. They've got miniatures lining nearly every wall, and almost as much RPG stuff. Not to mention a very nice gaming area.

Go to games plus--it's a great store! :)

Ditto all the above, with boots on.

Also Games Plus was the first store to stock MMS:WE, so you can trust their taste! :D

Thanks for all the glowing seconds and thirds. Now I KNOW I have to go there.

FYI, for me it would be a two hour round-trip without factoring traffic. I'm trusting you all that this will blow my socks off! ;)

You're all so positive I'm not worried.

Thanks again for all the replies!

My friend and I were staying in Downtown (Michigan Ave.), and we left right after I got out of my seminar for the day - around 5:00. It took us between 45 minutes to an hour to get there with traffic. It was a little better on the way back, traffic not as bad.

Having said that....IT'S WORTH IT! :)

Don't be afraid to buy in bulk, either. Thalmin will give you a card which gets stamped (I believe) for every $10 in stuff you buy. If you get 10 stamps, or buy $100 worth of items, you get something like 10% off. I didn't even know about it, actually, and he could have easily let me pay full price knowing I was in town for a short time and wouldn't be back in town in the near future. But he went ahead and did it anyways, making my experience that much better.
