Just a reminder not to move this thread into the political area. This is strange and I think the strangeness is interesting. If it gets political, I'll ask the mods to close it/remove it. No discussing the motives, please.

China has apparently passed a law that "strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate" and they call it "an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation."

I can see a government in a D&D world worried about the druids passing a law similar to this.

Interesting.

It sounds weird, but it does make sense why they'd do that.

Reminds me strongly of certain parts of Exalted. Perhaps the Sidereals would be willing to part with a Jade Prison at favorable rates?

I could explain why they've done it, but then this thread would get political :uhoh:

Hint: what country traditionally has a reincarnated leader?

Hope that's safe enough for the board rules. Meanwhile, back on topic: How about a criminal who is reincarnated as some animal, so the party needs to track down a particular bear (or whatever) and bring it to justice?

China cannot regulate food and toys but they can regulate reincarnation?

Remind me why China is on its way to becoming a superpower or somewhat US rival?

Without making political statements all I can say is because the world is stupid enough to allow that to happen.

Actually the Chinese manufacturing practices are not too different to those used in the west

and there are a whole lot of weird laws around the world

This conversation is decidedly political, and the veneer of disclaimers isn't hiding a thing. Let's be honest, folks: politics isn't the problem. The real reason that political threads are prohibited is that some of us lack the self-control to remain civil. Incivility is what causes bans, not the topics themselves.

Thulsa Doom offered Conan this solution to the riddle of steel: The strength of a sword isn't in the steel itself, but in the arm that wields it. The human spirit is stronger than weapons. Our problem with politics isn't in the nature of the subject itself, but rather in our inability to control ourselves.

I'll make no disclaimer. The reason that Chinese politicians are trying to control reincarnation is that they want to control the minds of their citizens. That's what happens when socialism evolves into totalitarianism.

It's more than that ... but to say more would cross over the line of both politics AND religion, if you know your China-Tibet history well.
