D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I rather lack your optimism, as I'm sure your aware by now! ;)

I don't think it's too early for information. Sure, if they published major chunks of the new story, then that would be a bit early, and odd. But Grand History of the Realms and The Orc King have been out for a month. If they wait till Dec/Jan before putting out any information on the new story, then WoTC will have had nearly 4 months of nothing but what they are removing from the Realms. Which is bad PR. Good PR would be Perkins saying 'The story is hollywood blockbuster cool, for the following reasons', which gives us all something positive to look at.

Not asking for a sneak peek at the FRCG, but just a date for the new setting would be nice.

Update: Rich's blog states that articles about the new FR will be coming out in the next two months. I can wait for that. Hopefully they will be worth it!

Fair enough. I am interested to see how things unfold.

Der Mr. Rouse, I wear T-shirts since 30years and I simply love them. Now I see your announcement of a New Edition and of course have a lot of questions:

I am a little bit frightened that you destroy the T-shirtness as we know them with your new edition. Wll T-Shirts still be T-Shirts or will they be like trousers?

More like a tank top in that it is easier to put on and wear.It is made of a cotton poly blend but it still looks like good old cotton. Now it has long sleeves! It is better!

Will you release supplementary T-Shirts?

We love all our t-shirt designs and will go back and visit them from time to time.

Will they be Core and we have to wear them to be offical?

If you want to wear them at TSWA events that is cool. If you want to wear them at home that is ok too. Options not restrictions.

Can I still use my old 1.0 T-Shirt with the release of the 1.5 one?
Although we will not officially sanction the wearing of 1.0 t-shirts, they are still shirts at their core and you'll be able to wear them for as long as you want. We know there are people out there still wearing our OT-shirts and Advanced T-Shirts from the 70's and 80's.

Can I use the T-Shirts online?
What size do you wear? We have done a lot of research on the t-shirt size of our customer and though we don't specifically talk about the results a bell curve distribution shows that the majority of of customers are a size L to XL. Based on this we will not support S, M, & XXL at this time.

Sorry I don't mean to hi-jack the thread but I couldn't resist adding some levity to it :p

As I stated over at the WoTC boards, I'm not unopposed to changes in the Realms. I am mostly concerned with the Tyr/Helm/Tymora storyline and the general culling of deities. Personaly, I find the culling of deities unnecessary, but can easily ret-con changes I dislike.

For instance, if Hoar is taken out in the changeover, whoops, never happened (and more than likely whoever killed him will be killed off in my Realms. Poetic Justice and all). The Tyr/Helm/Tymora storyline is more distressing because of the way the Deities themselves act, which is contradictory of the manner they have handled themselves in the past.

Mr. Baker has posted in the thread that he has passed along our concerns regarding the Tyr/Helm/Sune storyline to the developers, and here's hoping such a major change can be fed to us in a more palatable way than what was presented in the GHoTR.

My only other concern is the general question of how much can a setting change before a it becomes a new setting masquerading as the old setting. I don't have the answer to that question right now, but based on the changes presented I am a little worried. There seems to be quite a bit of drastic changes lined up or already enacted. I still plan on buying the 4.0 FRCG and plan to base my 4.0 FR purchases based on what I find inside. If this gnashing of the our collective teeth is mostly overblown, than I'll keep buying, if it becomes a new setting in my eyes, I may consider buying it should I like the setting, but I won't consider it the Realms either, despite it's label.

That said, Mr. Baker has taken a rather large beating on the boards the past few weeks, alot of it over the top.
