Lokin continues sharpening his bastard sword, smiling occasionally at an interesting comment but staying relatively focused on his work. Checking the edge with his thumb, he then sheathes the blade. Lokin looks around the room appraisingly, checking each of the adventurers waiting for employment. He turns to Kol.

"We have a decent amount of fighting men around here. A lot of them look like they know what they're doing, too. Competition is going to be tough for warriors. Oh why wasn't I given the piety for the priesthood or the brain to be a wizard? Hell, Payne's skills are going to make her more in demand than either of us. Hopefully, we can ride her coat tails."

Kol smiled and wiped his face. He had enough brew that he would need to relieve himself soon. When was this Contest going to start anyhow? "Mayhaps..But mayhaps you underestimate the attraction of two weathered warriors armed with magickal equipment to a prospective employer. But I am fine with riding Payne's...coat-tails..."

Valdaris looks up from his conversation with the monk and over towards Lokin and Kol, catching the glint of Lokin’s sword as it is sheathed. He addresses the pair of them.

“That is a fine blade you have there, friend. Do you know if ther is much call for that line of work around here?”

He takes a sip of his ale, before resting his drinking arm on his right leg. From his appearance, it’s abundantly clear that Valdaris another of the fighters in the tavern looking for prospective work.

Looking at the elven woman, Ciprinus asks
-What has happened since my unfortunate loose of mind?- his intriguing yellow and green eyes stared directly to the tinny elf

"Hey, Rawen!" Rowan says abruptly, elbowing his friend. He slams the book he's been reading onto the table. "I know how to use those little sticks the wizards use to heal people. I need to go find me one. The only thing is, I don't know that i have enough money. Tell you what. Ever since that Lazerus elf guy split, we don't have a healer in our little group. If you & Rinya pitch in, I can buy one of those wands and we be set!"

Lokin looks over to Valdaris, resting his sheathed bastard sword across his lap.

"This old thing? Well, it's served me well for the last few years and I do try to take care of it. As for employment, my friends and I had luck finding a job here before. Couldn't tell you why it's so slow now. I'm used to this kind of thing, though. I used to be a soldier. That was always 99% waiting around or marching, anyway."

Lokin takes a sip of his ale and smiles.

"A week from now, when you're in some dank tomb, digging a poisoned arrow out of your shoulder as your torch light fades and your rations rot, you'll be saying 'Why was I so eager to leave the inn.'"

Valdaris’ eyebrow perks up at the mention of the word soldier, though he remains quiet. He had served in the army for a brief stint – a time that he would just as soon forget. Besides, most people he’d come across didn’t look upon deserters too favourably. He chuckles with mild amusement and a rare glint of longing in his eye as he listens to Lokin.

“Aye. The inn’s comfortable and there’s good food ‘n’ drink to be had here I s’pose. Certainly more comp’ny than the open road... Though it must be interesting; ‘venturing through tombs an’ the like. Diggin’ up treasure and findin’ strange creatures. I can’t say I’ve spent much time in such places m’self.”

His tone of voice suggesting that he'd be willing to hear more details if they were offered.

"I cannot be certain. I have spent some time upstairs, and at one point I left to buy a cheap wooden shield for my servant. When I returned, several familiar faces had departed. I believe they left for far off Sairundan. Since then, I have made the acquaintance of two fellow mages." Taelythenihel indicates Ruud and Abdul.

Ciprinus makes a short head move toward the two arcanists.
-I see... Such an unfortunate event, I would have been more than willing to venture in the wild. Cities just don't fit with my personality you know... Neither with Carpios.-
The snake looks at his master, then climbs to his torso and neck, and coils there, rising his head and letting his tail hanging in front of Ciprinus chest.
-See? He is all upset.- the druid laughs
