City of Tomorrow OOC (DC/Blood of Heroes) {Game Started but accepting up to TWO others}

While we are waiting (or I'm waiting), for the Blood of Heroes book (Arrival MAR 9-14 yea!) What style of game is everyone interested in?

Better yet what is or Game Master thinking of at this time? And what style of character is everyone interest in?

I'll go first.

My first inclination was to play non-powered (or simple powered) characters to get to know the system. We could go around beating up bank robbers and weak villains, ala the early days of Spider-Man/Batman style villains.

Not knowing what the GM has in store (the world has or has no super-powers), we could play "through the years" of the world - play 1940-50's heroes for a few missions. Then play the kids of those heroes in the late 80's early 90's until we reach the current year and play a bit more powerful characters.

With the above we would have like three characters. Using different point buys/rules to make characters for the different eras. This way everyone gets to play at least one character at the power level they really want to.
 

I am heavily influenced by the Bronze Age of comics. I like the "feel" of those comics, but keep in mind modern sensibilities.

The game I had in mind was going to be set in an Iconic version of the D.C. universe. "Iconic" as in I'm not going to worry heavily about any particular continuity (Crisises, New 52 whatever) but the DC characters and tropes still should be universally recognizable.

The players would tale the roles of new superheroes in the City of Tomorrow; Metropolis.

Can the intrepid heroes make a name for themselves in the shadow of the World's Greatest Hero?

When it comes to supers, for some reason I prefer to play in a well-known, existing setting. Maybe that's because it's fun to tweak characters and continuity, have Bruce and Selena's daughter fighting crime in the '70s, using SHIELD or the death of Superman as part of your character's background, etc. Otherwise things can feel kind of generic and committee-driven.
 

Haha Yes it is fun to give your character some backstory to hook him into the setting.

Flashbacks you say? I have trouble remembering the two games I think we played using this system. Wish it could have been more, but the group was heavy into FASERIP. so we didn't get much done.

The one player wanted to be like Green Lantern and make solid objects, so most bad guys were caged and couldn't do anything.

Like Wildcat, Guardian, and the original Atom?
 

I liked my Marvel games that were based in the 40s and 50s and we had corny names like Mr. Strong, The Speedster, and the like. We had only one power and fought a lot of mobsters, giant robots, and thugs. While Captain America and the Defenders defeated the Nazis overseas.

We had a second game that was Flash Gordon like. All the enemies were Kree or Shi'ar and the group went planet hoping to find allies (other characters) and gear to fight of the invasion. So much fun making up planets and what the inhabitants powers were.

Planet X3-55 a gas giant where the one player had no form and had to where a space suit to be able to wield anything, as he was not solid. When he escaped the suit he could choke out a villain.

History
David Dunn lived an ordinary life, until the train crash. Not only was he the lone survivor, he was completely uninjured.
After the incident, with the help of a manipulative disabled comic art gallery owner named Elijah Price, he learned that he possessed superhuman powers. During this time, he rescued several children during a home invasion, wearing a green hooded raincoat as a makeshift disguise. Later, he discovered that Price was in fact a villain called Mr. Glass, who was responsible for the train crash and several other disasters. Dunn captured Price and turned him over to the police. Sometime in the next few years (with much prompting from his son, Joseph), he devised the costumed identity of Adamant.​
Description
Out of costume, David Dunn will usually be wearing his security guard uniform: light blue shirt w/ company logo, blue jeans and dark green windbreaker (also with the company logo), with a red baseball cap that says "Security".
In costume, Adamant wears a dark green military-style jacket with a storm flap and high collar, made of heavy canvas, heavy-duty green duck pants, dark grey army boots, green leather gloves, and a helmet of stiff, green leather. A red outline of a diamond (brilliant-cut) is centered on the breast of the jacket.
Both in and out of costume, he carries a .45 ACP pistol, holstered on his belt.​
Personality
David is a fairly stoic and serious-minded man. He also loves his son very much, not wanting his strange powers to interfere with his life. David also has a strong sense of responsibility, causing him to decide to use his powers to help people, despite his desire to keep to himself.​
