Civilization 4 Expansion disc: thoughts?

I actually liked the CivIII volcano thing, too.

Just want to re-iterate, though: Alpha Centauri II would kick butt. Alpha Centauri even had better volcanos... :)

My favorite tactic in Alpha Centauri was to speed research all the water technologies and then deliberately trigger global warming to flood all the land-dwellers. Nothing like ecological warfare!

And really, really cool nukes (Planet Busters) set one off on the coast and you had a new bay. One of my favorite/worst games of Alpha Centauri was one where the U.N. laws got lifted and Yang, Santiago, and Miriam all had a three way planet buster war.... I won and Diedre was close behind, Yang and Santiago were both gone, as was Morgan, and I took Miriam's last city. The map was a whole different place by the time they all stopped lobbing nukes at each other. :)

Agreed... I really loved Alpha Centauri as well. The way the civics worked in that game was really nice and much closer to Civ 4 than Civ 3 (which immediately followed AC).

You ain't kiddin'. Seeing an armored enemy 'Former near one of your cities was much more frightening than seeing an army.

Okay, a lot of it is amateurish, but it's also a lot more inventive. Scenarios where you colonize the Moon, some fantasy scenarios, etc.

Ok, I can't find any mods/scenarios about colonising the moon, I don't suppose you have any specific links?

Mention of this brought back memories of an earlier version's 'mars' mod, and anything that combines my love of anything 'spacey' and Civ would definately rekindle my interest in Civ IV.

I also miss the natural disasters events, but I too think they were a bit too common. Perhaps bringing them back as an option with a much reduced occurance rate would add spice for those oldsters that want a taste of 'the good old days'

As to the not having to worry about loosing resources, I don't know what you're talking about as I have had many games realy get crippled when my only source of XXX vanished. Then again that's one of the things I love about Civ III / IV, having to potentialy go to war for that oh-so-important Strategic Resource! That or set up bases on thier soil, or Carriers off-shore, so that you can constantly keep them from improving/using a vital resource, such as Uranium.

I'm playing on Prince.
It's 1750.
I'm about to bomb the empire of Carthage back to the stone age, in retaliation for their unprovoked artillery attack.

Woo-hoo!
