Civilization 4 Expansion disc: thoughts?

We wants it! Here's a question for some folks that have seen how Civ is usually handled: Are they going to bundle this expansion with the base game anytime soon for a discount? I sorta misplaced my copy (ok ok I gave it back to the guy who actually owned it).

There are currently no announced plans for a combo pack. But yes, this always happens. I wouldn't expect it until they are about to release a NEW expansion pack though. Expect the next expansion pack in a year or so, and the Civ4 GOLD a few months before that. :\

Hmm... economy, you say?

Yup. Sounds like an expansion that even those of us you rarely go to war could use. I'm really, really liking the additional religious/cultural options in Civ 4. But I used to run a economics-heavy game in previous versions (sustainable spending of 500+ gold per turn to build stuff). Being able to do both of those well/better would be great.

Oh, you should see what you can do with Carthage's Cothon unique building (replaces Harbor and grants an extra trade route in that city) or England's Stock Market (replaces Bank and grants an extra +15% wealth). The civs themselves are much more specialized with the addition of unique buildings.

China for example just eats up land with Pavilions that grant them +25% culture in their cities.

Or Malinese mints! Wow. I've never been a big fan of the Malinese civ's cultural unit, but I was able to amass a fortune with a 90% tech rate.

I just got this last night and am loving it so far. Decided to play the Mongols and really like how the unique buildings add yet another wrinkle of variation making each Civilization play a little different.

I'm slightly intrigued by everyone's rave reviews, although I do find CivIV to be less appealling than CivII. I probably try to get the wife to buy it for a Xmas present, if nothing else more exciting crops up on the horizon.
