ok want a good combo you say? well how far out of the box will your DM allow you to go? If he is letting you change stats then i guess pretty far.
There are a number or player designed classes available in the web. that if your dm allowed might work out great for you.
But the monk class is never one i would personally play i found it to be rather uneventful. the dm can make them seem flashy and hard core but players tend to still land short.

personally i always liked mage as the combo class. It didn't interfere with the idea of wearing armor since thieves were reduced to leather any ways. the low hit points and weak attack a thieve received was countered with the wonderful distance mage spells would bring to the table. If you combo it with fighter you still can't wear good armor and perform your thief skills. and on top of it all with a mage you can always cast things like detect traps and knock to get through things your thief skills came short on.

Want it to be special see if your DM would allow being a enchanter or summoning elemental mage or my personal favorite necromancer.

Well my DM is being leneant because most of the party is new. I am one of the experienced players having 4 years as a paly under my belt. He wants us to stay with the offical books instead of homebrew. The only exception would be if it goes with the theam of the adventure in some way.

We are helping a group of kabolds fight a druid that "stole" there dragon, and the druid is a top underling helping a shade which is our main baddy.

And thanks for the suggestions, other then monk my other idea was to use some sort of arcane rogue.

so in his world druids act like sorcerers? interesting
you guys help a lot of dragons?seems to me a lvl 3 thief would be diner and no druid to caputer a dragon unless it was like a forest dragon or something similar. but hey what ever gets your players a a name.

The DM is running the module The Sunless Citadel. I have been through it twice (different DMs). A decent first module.

[sblock]Enter a collapsed tower. Fight rats. Kobolds are crying that goblins stole their dragon. Kobold queen has Meepo lead you to the goblins for a reward. Kick goblin booty. Rescue white dragon - only like 3' long, but you have to get him back somehow. Find a hole leading deeper underground which leads to the evil druid. Evil druid tries to glue you to his evil tree. Kick druid booty.[/sblock]

If you are serious about the rogue/monk, I suggest you take 1 level of Monk, ditch the TWF (since you now have FoB), and take Ascetic Rogue from Complete Adventurer instead.
Get a high Wis score to up your AC. Do NOT take additional levels in Monk (the additional bonusses do not compare with the Rogue class abilities you get).
The Ascetic Rogue will allow you to do Unarmed damage as a Monk of your rogue+your monk lvl.

In addition, there is a difference in the Table short-text and the Feat description. If your DM is lenient enough, he may also allow you to pick up the monk level(s) for Sneak Attack progression.
If that is the case, taking additional Monk levels MIGHT just be worth it.....
