Well I got a good response from the spells question, now I want to know about classes. The what is better, the Standard Classes found 3.5 or D20 Modern basic to Advance classes? There is a reason all my posts. I like to know what the D20 community likes. This question is asked for a science fantasy world setting to give you more of an idea.

I think that it is not a question of better or not, but more a question of flavour. The d20 Modern set up allows for a maximum of flexibility when creating a character. However, the players are not able, I think, to assess what they are facing as accurately than with standard d20 character. It does reduce the amount of stereotyping.

If you're going for total freedom in character creation, go more with the d20 Modern set-up,

It depends. For a fantasy game with strong archetypes, such as D&D, 3.5 classes are the way to go. For a modern game where people tend to be much less differentiated, generic classes are better.

It's more of futuristic with fantasy elements mixed or blended together. But its not like Dragonstar, more of a reverse on that.

Well, i haven't delved into d20 modern for a reason...I'm pretty stubborn about the "standard" classes. In fact, I don't even like most prestige classes ;)

It depends. Each has their place.

In one fantasy campaign I'm working on, classes will be based off of D20 Modern. Everyone's a kid from the same village. They aren't trained as fighters, or rogues, or rangers. They're just THEM. Magic is pretty rare (never been seen in the village), and most of the classic archetypes aren't going to be around. Those that are can easily be advanced classes.

However, in other games, the D&D class system not only helps in the world building process, but also in bootstrapping the players into making coherent concepts (chargen is easier as well).

Personally, I like D20 Modern's system better. But each was done in a specific way for specific reasons.

The one thing I do not like about D20 Modern are the classes based on the attributes, you "base classes". That is I am hesitant of using D20 modern. I am thiunking of modifing that and dropping the Strong Hero, Fast Hero and the rest and making standard 10 level classes for starting off.
