Classic Genre films to show my brother?

I'm currently in the process of helping my brother attain somewhat of a cinephile credíbility. Despite not reading very much, it seems he also does not watch a lot of movies (I regret both).

My brother is 16 years old, on the shy, nerdy side but also very much a sixteen-year-old (so I think heady films would not be to his liking).

So far, we watched:
Life of Brian
Army of Darkness (yes, I started with geeky films, which he liked :))
Murder by Death
Pappa ante portas (a German comedy)
The Indiana Jones trilogy
Once Upon a Time in the West (he wasn't too impressed with that one)
The Gamers

So, what films would you want your kid brother to have seen, or know about? Blade Runner? Alien/Aliens? I need ideas!

Mulholland Drive? For a sixteen year old? The must raise them pretty smart in Sweden!

Memento I totally agree with...the answer to virtually every "what movie should I watch?" question should be answered with 'memento'

It's too early for memento, but a good choice. He's got to be fully indoctrinated before I show him the wondrous things like Memento or Brazil. :)

I'll see him this saturday (sinc ehe lives with his mother, and I strongly dislike his mother :)), and so far, I'd go with Mad Max and Jaws, probably. But can you successfully watch Jaws during the day?

Hmm, not sure if these are the kinds of films you want, but I find them great fun!

The Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)
The Three Musketeers/The Four Musketeers (1970s swashbuckly goodness!)
The Princess Bride (a true classic)
The Big Sleep (Bogie & Bacall do Noir right!)
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension or else Monty Python & the Holy Grail (everyone needs at least one always-quoted geek film in their background! ;) )

Beyond that, it kinda depends what genres you are trying to fill in...

Superman
Superman II
Blade Runner
Big Trouble in Little China
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Excalibur
Contact
Fifth Element
Back to the Future
The Fly (both versions)
Escape from new York
The Warriors
Batman (Tim Burton or Adam West, either one)
Planet of the Apes (Original)
Soylent Green
Logan's Run
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Original)
Stargate
Westworld
Fahrenheit 451
Outland
Galaxy Quest

[This is my response to What Would You Screen at Cine Barsoom?]

It's amazing how many movies are out there that your typical teenage guy would love -- but they're not new, so he'll never see them:
Alien
Aliens
Apocalypse Now
Black Hawk Down
Braveheart
Clockwork Orange
Conan The Barbarian
The Crow
Deliverance
The Duellists
Enter the Dragon
The Game
Gladiator
Leon, The Professional
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Mad Max
Predator
Pulp Fiction
Road Warrior
Robocop
Sixth Sense
Swingers
Terminator
Terminator 2
The Thing
12 Monkeys
To that, I'd add Dazed and Confused and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
