eeeh, not that special. Check out the sultans of smack thread. Somebdy got his Wizard's DCs up to 50.

I've got a character based on that smack down. He'd be kicking more ass if the only thing the GM was throwing at us were undead/bears (no undead bears yet though :( )

I saw the DC for the 'final' of the 'ultimate cleric' and laughed. +7 item and +5 ability from a domain seem pretty out there :/

Don't forget that you could make him start as an "old" character.. sure, you'd have -3 to str, dex, and con, but you'd get +2 to int, wis, and cha.. so that wis+2 would increase your DCs by one..

Even if you used all the numbers as presented, I played worse through a good portion CotSQ. That was the adventure that taught me that archer clerics with persistant spell make games suck and no one should be allowed to polymorph into a Kelvazu.

My advice - don't uber powergame, as it takes the fun out of the neat scenery. It doesn't matter what your stats are if you are stupid plaing through. The module isn't beyond the limits set in book, and if things are too tough, you should have a discussion with your DM (or the players if you are the DM).

If you focus on powergaming to survive, you take a lot of the fun out of the game. It was the reason our CotSQ game eventually crashed :(

Thanks for the advice! Normally, my players have trouble completing modules slated for their level even if they are 5 and not 4. Combined with all the talk about how tough this module is, is the reason why I told them to powergame as much as possible. If they cruise through the first parts of the adventure, I'll try to beef up the monsters a bit, or maybe keep them from raising levels. I am running a no xp campaign, they raise when I tell them to. BTW, the fighter in the group is a Ftr/Rgr/Foe Hunter with a keen falchion vakar sword , so he can quite easily do a 60-70 hp damage with a hit, and a spell resistance of 30 against drow...

Glad to help.

PCs difficulty is largely a matter of the DM. If I tried hard enough, I could take an creature of CR of the PCs APL and kill them all. I could also rule a cow falls from space and kills them instantly. If they are not amused and enjoying that kind of game, though, I am doing a piss-poor job.

Players don't change much as they play. Powergamers will make stronger characters than non-powergamers. If you try to make everyone powergame, those who normally don't (or don't do it very well) will loose a lot of fun.

Sorry to wax philsophical.
