Cleric Domains

What all the others said: Imagine what a kind of cleric your character shall be, and then choose a deity and domains.

The War Domain isn't bad, for it gives you Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus in your deitie's favored weapon, and the power words you get as domain spells at the last 3 levels are nice, too (the rest of the spells isn't to be spit at, either).

Travel is nice for all the nice stuff clerics usually miss out.

I hope you know that clerics are far more than just healers in 3e! As noone wants to play one in your campaign, it sounds as if they still think of them as pure healing stations. But they're far more than that: Their spells can heal the party (and much better than before, since the healing spells got a serious buff and can be cast spontaneously), protect and buff allies, harass, damage, or even kill friends, and get you a lot of other things done. And clerics are capable warriors in their own right (especially when buffed up with stuff like divine favor and divine power).

Mmm. Need a psionic version of that-- though, of course, it's a prime candidate for renaming.

As for Domains, Knowledge will help you access more "wizardly" Prestige Classes, and I think Animal or Plant will help you get into Druidic ones. Trickery will help you with Roguish PrCs, especially if you take a level of Rogue or two.

Manifesting Prodigy?

If you want to get munchy (and never get hit in combat), wear the heaviest armor you can find, choose the Magic domain, and get your hands on scrolls or wands of Shield.

Your AC will be sky-high, and you can still attack! ;)

As a fellow cleric player, I usually play the cleric in our groups, I tend to become the warrior priest of asskicking!! :D It runs really well in our parties cause the only buff i tend to memorize is prayer, but ou want be getting that fer awhile.

I will tell you that keep, dex, con, int, and cha at 10, thus that is 8 points are gone. L8r you may want to inc these with magic items, but you guys are 1st lvl thus dont have them. Cha is good fer turning and if you are thinking about a lvl in paladin, always fun, and unless you run into spectres you should be able to take care of anything. You can put 13 into wis to get it up to 17, and 4 into str fer 12. I believe that is 25 total?

It reallay sounds like a support cleric you want to make, so all yer ability points you get should go into wis i guess. Remember major buff spells are decreasing from 1hour/lvl to 1min/lvl. You also need str to carry that armor of yours around, You actually may want to carry something other that armor, shield and weapon, unless you have a squire running around with you.

Seeing that i dont know the FR deities well, I will check them out and see what me recommendation would be.

Also that you can become the party leader, take ranks in diplomcy religion and concentration.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Check out Lathandar, seems like something good fer yah.

You might want some INT if you want any sort of decent skill points. Personally, I chose Tyranny, Hatred and Destruction... oh wait, you're not a Divine Disciple of Bane. :D

If you're going to play the support and healer guy, the Renewel Domain is extremely valuable. It prevents the "cleric is down, we're all going to die!" scenario. Healing domain isn't that great. You can already swap out for healing spells, so having them as domain spells isn't very impressive. Protection is pretty good, and if you cast Shield Other (once you get it) you can still be helpful in combat without actually getting into combat. I find SO on the rogue to be particularly helpful, as it lets him hang in the fight a bit longer and dish out a few more sneak attacks.

Both Lathander and Chauntea have Renewal and Protection as domains, so either one of those is fine.
