Close Blast Attack and Critical hits

I cant seem to figure this out: Under close blast attacks it states that you make a seperate attack roll for each target, but only one damage roll. My question is, what if you score a critical hit with one of those attack rolls? How do critical hits work in this situation?

Maximize the damage (and apply bonus damage if applicable) to the crit'd target(s), then make a single normal damage roll and apply it to all other targets hit.

Yep, you still only make one damage roll (and the targets that got a crit get maximum damage instead).

What is unclear, IMHO, is, whether you roll the extra damage for a crit only once or individually for each critically hit target. But I suppose for ease of play you also make only one roll here, even if you managed to critically hit several targets. :)

The way I do it is have the PC roll damage once (to start) and apply said damage to each target hit (going one-by-one as the PC makes attack rolls). For those targets that are critically hit, maximum damage (as normal) and roll any critical bonus dice and apply that number to the target. If more than one target is critically hit, I have the PC roll the critical bonus dice again.

Once. You still use the same damage rules, where the critical hit rules do not except them.

Our party mage is basically a walking artillery piece (i.e. criteria for power selection has been purely what does the best AOE damage) meaning we have to deal with this every week.

To be honest I dont know what the official ruling is, but we do as Draco pointed out. Basically the player rolls a normal and a critical damage and then target by target we detemine which to apply.

Oooh, rolling damage *first* would really save the DM some time! Rather than remembering which ones were hit and tallying it all at the same time, you could do it as the to-hit rolls fly.

Super!
