I find that though it gets more impersonal, recollections in hindsight are often more accurate and perhaps to a degree more objective accounts of passed experiences.

Tell, tell, Ao, we are willing subjects ...

This was a FR campaign that was set in the North with the initial concept of multiple DMs. After the period of 6 months, the DMs running dwindled down to me. After another year, I've found that I'm the only one that can remember what went on, for the most part. I do have some gaps, since there were games I missed, but remember most of it. I figured a story hour might be a good way to help the players remember what went on, since there are lots of hanging plotlines (and dropped ones) and lots of clues and hints I've dropped that have either been forgotten or outright disregarded as trivial.

One of my stumbling blocks is that campaign started out as pretty much just hack and slash, with some plot. I've been injecting more plot into the campaign since I took over, but returning to the original adventures, I'm stuck with one problem... I can't write action. It comes out looking incredibly lame, in my eyes.

I have the first adventure written out, but am dissatisfied with how it looks. I'll also point out that this was an adventure I played in. I didn't run in this campaign until the 5th adventure.

“A Gathering”

The group was called to the town of Beliard by the death of a friend and mentor of all the PCs; Deon the Ranger. Deon had travelled far, visiting lots of interesting places and doing lots of good deeds. He was a jack of all trades and a master of a few. Among his many titles was protector of his home town of Beliard. The executor of his estate sent letters to each of the initial player characters stating that, if they came to Beliard, they would receive their bequests.

Aurea, Carowyn, Farhad and a man named Elijah arrived in Beliard on the same day in the spring of ****. They met with the executor of Deon’s will, who said that he had items left for them back at the house, but there was a bit of a problem. Deon’s apprentice was still off in the wilderness and hadn’t returned since his tutor’s death. Deon kept a large number of dogs for hunting, which were kept in the house. The leader of the pack, Fluffy, was also in the house. Fluffy was a very big dog; and a bit unusual. Now, the dogs hadn’t been fed for a couple of days, because the executor was quite afraid of Fluffy. The executor wanted the group to go into the house and subdue the normal dogs, though Fluffy would have to be put down. He was always a bit wild and was definitely more then anyone could handle. The local Rangers’ humane society would be by later that day to pick up the other dogs.

Farhad and Aurea made a comment to the effect of, “How hard can a couple of pooches be?” *Cue Ominous Thunder*

The regular dogs went down easy and without much of a fight. The only one to take any damage was Aurea, who got chomped good. But… there was no sign of Fluffy. The group searched around the house, checking every room, until the came to the last one, the bedroom.

“Okay…he’s gotta be in there,” Elijah muttered. “Anyway we can get a look in there before we go in?”

“I’ll go out and check the windows, “Aurea volunteered. Most of the windows had closed blinds, but the window on the porch side was open to let in the sun. The room looked empty, but ransacked. Telling the others that the room was empty, Carowyn came back to the window with Aurea while Farhad and Elijah went in the room.

Well… the room wasn’t as empty as they had thought. Flames shot out from underneath the bed, scorching everyone. Elijah and Aurea dropped to the ground, badly burned while Farhad had a fire-breathing dog to contend with. Carowyn quickly bent over to cast a curative spell on Aurea and then shot the beast, which had emerged out from under the bed and was attacking Farhad, with a magic missle.

The beast continued to just soak up damage as it proceeded to drop Farhad to the ground, unconscious. Things looked grim as it showed no sign of stopping as Aurea plugged it with another arrow. Carowyn climbed through the window to bring Farhad back to consciousness. As Farhad stirred, the hound turned on Carowyn, biting savagely into her side. Aurea tried to distract it from Carowyn’s body, but shot wide and slew the mirror instead. As Carowyn slipped into unconsciouness, Farhad whacked the hound one last time. It backed up a few feet and looked ready to breath flames again, but stumbled as it moved, dropping to the ground.

Curative potions were needed to return Carowyn to conscious, but after that, the group was able to get back on their feet again. Deon’s Executor, now able to get to the items stored in the attic, brought them down for them to pick over. He told those present that they were welcome to stay in the house. Deon wished that it would be used as a base of operations for a new group of heroes, there to take his place. Needing a place to stay for the time being, Carowyn, Farhad, and Aurea agreed. Elijah, however, decided he would rather return to Waterdeep.

While setting up in the house, the group found a filing cabinet full of notes, new and old, taken by Deon in his travels.

I was starting to think I had slain the Hive with my bad writing.

How much XP do you think that would have been worth? ;)
Not a bad synopsis, AO. I'm assumng Fluffy is a hellhound?

That was our guess. Never found out for sure. our group at the beginning wasn't big on knowledges and the DM for that adventure never told us.

I've just about finished the second adventure and continue to chug along. Course, now I'm rapidly approaching the first of the adventures I missed.
