Hmm; what about if you had input into the character but just didn't do up the stats yourself?

For example, say as a player in this game you want to play, oh, a dwarven warmain who's really really strong(just as an example, I'm gonna be mixing and bastardizing D20 and AU pretty freely for this) and a bit of a berserker. The power level is 12, so when game time rolls around, you've got a dwarf, Level 7 Warmain, Level 2 Berserker, and 3 levels in the Hero class from Four-Color to Fantasy with a good amount of Super Strength and Extra Hit Points.

Would you hypothetically be cooler with that? You do up the backstory(or more precisely we work together on it) and the DM does the stats?

I have no problem with my players characters(heck, a lot of them are more interesting than a lot of things I come up with), it's just the genning time that kills me.
Hypothetically, you're presenting me with the option to play the character I want but not have to piss about with numbers?

*drool* I wanna play in your game!

Just as an aside, I do love a GM who's prepared to work with me on my character background rather than just go "whatever you bring is fine". Most of my games you bring the character rather than create them in a session, so it'd be nice to have that kind of input. As a player I mean. :)

Actually Angcuru, I was gonna run it with you guys at some point in the near future if I don't have something planned for Exalted; James has said that he'd like to have a good old fashioned dungeon crawl, and I realized that Ron and Chris have never experienced the simple pleasure of tearing through reams of monsters for "No Good Reason but Money".

What would you like to play, and do you agree with my genning idea, that of "players provide basic outline and character background, I provide stats"? If we gen at the session, especially seeing as how we've only got James' copy of BESM D20, 2 copies of AU, and 1 printout of FCtF, it'll take all night.

Well come on over then, Randomling! I've never had a player as furry as you, you hatted wombat(unless you count RakeRon, who has convinced all the dogs in mine and Angcuru's neighborhood that he's the Dog God).

Yes, I want to do that for my next D20 campaign, work on all the character backgrounds together and tie them together in interesting and usable ways. This comes from having played in a game where we had groups that consisted of gods, valor knights, fallen valor knights, gold dragons, android gargoyles who found God(I kid you not) and book-eating Rakshasas(I wish I were kidding).

Yep - I'm interested in the effects of unbalancing the humours purposefully, using symbiote exocrines. The idea is, for instance, that the yellow bile, fire-associated exocrine induces anger, rage, general boost in agression; but what kinds of effects are the other three associated with?

Blood, phlegm, yellow bile, black bile.

Hm, I don't know which is associated with which. I'll just have to go with the remaining elements: water, earth and air.

Water is associated with emotions, empathy and compassion. A "watery" exocrine might give insight into the hearts of others, providing a competence bonus on Sense Motive, Diplomacy, Bluff and Intimidate checks.

Earth is stable and practical. An earth exocrine might fill you with stability and resolve, providing a bonus to Fortitude and Will saves and a bonus against trip attacks, but perhaps giving a commensurate penalty on Reflex saves.

Air is flexible and intellectual. Bonus to Reflex saves? Bonuses on Int checks? Wizardly save DCs?

(Sorry, these aren't that good, hope they inspire you to better things, though.)

From London to New Jersey, hm? Ach, I have a whole "life" thing going on over here. :( You know what, though, if you ever run a PbP I want in.

And tying together character backgrounds is always a good idea - especially if you're starting at higher levels. It's always strange when the four highest level people in the region meet for the first time. :D :p

Android gargoyles? How in the hell does that work? And why did the rakshasa eat books?

 wow that's odd, where was this set? Rakshasas, androids, knights, and dragons, don't fit in one setting too well, to put it mildly

The Nikolai model SOMETHING bad-ass rompin'stompin powerhouse android built in the form of a gargoyle.

There was a skill in this one bogus game where you could eat a book and learn everything in it instantly.

I was thinking of either using BESM D20(and borrowing James' book again) or using a combo of Arcana Unearthed, a bit of D20(the Holy Warrior and Monte Cook Ranger, specifically), and Four Color to Fantasy for permanent powers(like flight, super speed, really really tough, or Strength Times God). Power level will be somewhere around 12th. BESM also has the advantage of you guys having fully customed characters(I'll design them from the ground up). Want a guy with weird Attack bonus? SURE! Want your guy to be a warrior who throws Fireballs? COMING RIGHT UP, SPANKY!
