Didn't realize until now how brutal the teleport rule was - true this situation is exceptional, but it underlines the disadvantage faced by the new arrival, who gets no benefit from feats like flyby attack.
Actually, I think you'll find the new teleport rule to be to the new entrant's advantage, in more ways than one. It will only be to his disadvantage when (1) nothing blocks the entrance, and (2) he has some method of ranged attack or an advantageous feat like flyby attack or powerful charge and the opponent is in a suitable position.

Now, however, you can teleport within a larger creature's reach, position yourself ideally for a breath weapon, etc. And, you won't get hassled by blade barriers, walls of fire, or prismatic walls. :)

Q: what if it's optional? You can enter normally if you like, or take the teleport option if that would be an advantage? Any downside?

Edit: second question - what is the rule as far as line-of-sight / line-of-effect if a creature in the water wants to attack a creature above, or vice-versa?

1) I don't see the point in cutting a hole in the wall of force just to reward Flyby Attack in the first round.

2) The water does not block line of effect for magic unless the effect requires an attack roll or is fire-based.

I'll be on vacation as well, starting July 7th, but will hope to log in once a day or so.
Nothing like Vegas - visiting the folks in NC.

Welcome Home!

Welcome back, Gansk & PJSlavner (and families)!

I hope you guys had a great trip. And, Gansk, if you need to borrow some money . . . forget it! I don't loan money to gamblers. :p

Thank you, Infiniti. We had a great trip. The food was better, I saw a lot of friends and relatives I have not seen in eight (or eighteen) years, and the children went to the beach all day and played in the village until midnight with all of their new friends. It was great that I could tell them to go out and play, and for five hours not have to worry about where they were. We also stayed at a cousin's weekend house in the Slovenian alps, which is only an hour away from their house in the capital city where they live.

The children did not want to come home at all, although our oldest son wanted his best friend, my wife, and all our animals to come to us. I was sad to leave (because it is like home to me) but also happy to come home, because I missed my wife, even though we talked to each other almost every day.

Thanks Infiniti, and the reason I didn't lose my shirt this time is because I didn't go to Vegas, just to the California desert. I guess I could have visited an Indian casino, but I resisted the temptation and just swam around in a pool all day.

PJSlavner, it's great to hear your kids got through the language barrier and had loads of fun!

I asked about languages in the Celestia arena. I think they can and probably will play an important role. With multiple Good guys, communication will be critical and if the bad guys can understand the discussion, it will be very crucial to determine their actions.

Even more importantly, can those outside the arena hear what's said inside, or just see? Note that if the can hear what's said inside, then current combatants can effectively communicate with future combatants and I don't much like that idea. For example: "Hey, this thing has fire resistance and though I don't have fire-based attacks, keep that in mind."
