Clubhouse: The Shearing Pen

Preumptive GM question: should we say the water in the arena cannot have "control water" used on it, and perhaps similar rules for shaping/transmuting the earth? I think that Maod might be able to flood the arena to a depth of 30+ ft or so for several hours, which I think would not be a good thing.

Well, it would be a good thing for as long as NG had an Oceanic Dragon or flyer, and NE had land-bound types, but that's not the point.

I'd think that the GDM would make an amount of water equal to the volume of the victory zone disappear each time a combatant is created, at which point water would then rush in from the surrounding areas, lowering the water level somewhat. The GDM would change the transmuted water back to its original volume, but would not force water not to come back in after the instaneous effect of dispelling is gone.

Plea

Evilhalfling, Greybar, and PJSlavner, can y'all help ugulu throw CE under the bus? It's not just a little frustrating, speaking from personal experience. Although the terrain/rules changes help immensely, it can still get tedious.

As people desire, we can switch out 'control' of LG to beat on CE for a while. :)

I think the only thing harder than trying to run CE would be trying to run LG - not sure how you're managing to keep track of everything.

Re: NG vs. NE and water rising.

So at some point I figure water less than head-height will still cause disadvantage to non-swimming creatures - maybe using the hampering terrain rules. I'm not sure if that should trigger at half their height or what. Is there a RotG article on this somewhere?

In specific to the current fight, I'm not sure what affect the water should have on the demodant (medium size in 2ft of water). I know that two feet of water is plenty to slow me down (as a medium size creature myself), but maybe only enough to forbid the "Run" action and/or five-foot steps. Once it gets to half-height (4ft? 5ft?) it definetely should have serious negative effects, but no drowning risk unless knocked down.

I was looking at this, but it doesn't cover this case I think.

Tracking LG

You may not have seen the posts, but I made MMIV-style stat blocks of each of the critters (all 3 dragons, both planetars, the throne archon, and the tu'en-rin). I made of note of every buff and have the sheets arranged in init order. It's actually fairly simple to keep track of them. One of the past sblocks was a note to Gansk listing out every buff, the CL, who cast it, and the round it will expire. I'm assuming Gansk added new spells to the list. I track all positions/sizes in Excel, so that isn't a problem either.

I can help with CE. I agree with Ugulu about the difficulty of keeping track of LG, and will not even try to take that side.

That bit about the terrain rules helping makes me LOL. I am way more confused with the new terrain. The terrain is one reason I am taking a long break from moderating. The main, and only necessary reason, actually, is to have more time with my family, especially with my wife having the next month off. My children know that when they see the black screen on the computer that Papi is going to be grumpy and inaccessible, which is not how I want my children to remember their childhoods. It is so much more relaxing now that I only have to post for one creature. I was starting to get burned out, but I am much better now.

I am used to having the positions of each player posted when a new combatant enters the arena. In the NG-NE arena I keep having to go back a page to figure out where Maod is.

I can maintain a list of all their positions and visible effects and update it every post I make. That should help, right? I can also include some 'hidden' information if y'all can suppress the instinct to metagame (that way, at least you won't be caught unawares). :)

In any case, the terrain/rules changes help alleviate the boredom and extreme frustration of sending in monsters against nearly insurmountable odds. I didn't mean that it makes moderating/playing easier. LOL!

Did you see the Excel spreadsheet I made? It's what I use to represent the terrain and makes things rather easier.
