Clueless...Educate Me About D&D Miniatures.

This is normal.

A WotDQ booster will have 8 minis in, distributed as follows...
* One Huge figure, either "Rare" or "Uncommon". (There is 1 rare in every 3 packs)
* One Rare figure (medium or large) from the non-Huge pool.
* Two Uncommon figures from the non-Huge pool.
* Four Common from the non-Huge pool.

Cheers!

Ohhh! I thought I was special! :( ;)

That was a good move on Wizard's part I think. Otherwise people would have to buy a lot of boosters to complete the set and the WotDQ boosters were about 1 1/2 times the price of the non-huge boosters.

Plus they needed to do something to make up for the Bluespawn Godslayer!

So are these the only two sets that have huge boosters? And you can only get the huge figures if you buy a huge booster, right? All the other figures in all the other sets came in regular boosters, right? Minus the Icons of course. How about Blood War? Are there huge boosters for this set, or just regular boosters?

Yes, only Giants of Legend and War of the Dragon Queen are huge sets. Those sets only come in Huge Packs (no regular boosters), each containing one huge figure in addition to the normal figures (though in WotDQ, the huge replaces one of the uncommons).

Other sets contain figures of sizes tiny to large (with tiny being quite rare, we only get the occasional rare, though Unhallowed will have at least two).

Bloodwar doesn't have huge figures. It's unlikely that 2007 will get another huge set (although nothing is known about the November Set, and only the name of the July set - Night Below - although I think we know that NB will be regular, too.

I have to ask, from the sounds of things most of the ppl posting here have reasonable collections of minis. Out of curiosity, how do you all store your minis? I'm struggling to find the best way to stash mine.

I have a number of completed sets and was hoping to store them separate to the odds and sods which I use for regular gaming, but have struggled as to the best manner of storage, specially for WoTDQ, with the huge minis being a real problem to store. Any suggestions from the sages of the foruM? :)

Perfect. This was going to be my next question too. What cases or bags do you recommend to store the figures, and what kind of folders/card holders do you recommend for the cards?

At the moment I have my minis (about 500 of them) sorted into groups and put in plastic snap-lock bags. So I have one bag for orcs, gnolls, bugbears, dragons, undead, heavily armoured humans, dwarves, elves, "monsters", etc.

Most of the large and huge minis just sit loose in one of my desk drawers at the moment. I'm not quite sure how to sort them. I will be getting a couple of plastic tubs to aid in storage soon though (I only got into the minis about 1-2 months ago).

Many people use fishing tackle boxes or hardware containers. They are widely available at hardward stores. I use these extensively, with my minis sorted by creature type, regardless of DDM faction, so that when I want an undead, I go to the undead container. The containers I use are built to hold separate screw or nails in separate compartments, so my minis are sorted within each container by mini (or similar mini).

Most of my rares and all of my huges sit on a book shelf in the game room (with a few in the basement on a display shelf with minis I've repainted - this will probably move to the game room soon).

The uncommon larges are stored in a larger hardward container, regardless of faction or type.

I store cards in individual sleeves, I tried the 9 sleeve sheets, but couldn't figure out how to sort the cards, as new minis come out all the time. The only way I could figure was by set, and I don't want to remember what set something is when looking for it.

I keep mine in a stack of these Plano boxes.

The top is clear and has little compartments just the right size for one or two character figs--perfect for storing NPC and unique monster figures where they're easy to see and get to quickly. The main compartment easily holds Larges or batches of orcs, skeletons, whatever. Like Zaukrie, I personally sort mine by theme rather than DDM faction--in fact, I even separate out not just D&D types, but also game-style types (minis useful for Cthulhu-style games, minis that work well in my less-high-fantasy Ars Magica campaign, etc.).

My Huges just sit in a couple plastic bins.

The great thing about the minis is that they're extremely durable--you can just dump them in a box. (Or store them in zip-lock bags, as Olaf described.) Collections of zillions of figs do take a lot of space to store, but only a fraction of the space of even much smaller collections of hand-painted metal.

They are very durable, but some not as much. Vadania is a notorious arm loser, and something just broke off one of my orcs I was sorting through to run my 11 year old's birthday D&D day (I had put about 20 orcs into a little packing box to hide them from the kids so they don't know what to expect - jammed 'em in really) (I think it was part of an orc archer - ouch).

I like the Plano like boxes for this reason, you tend to be more thoughtful about how you put them in, and they are less likely to be jammed in.
