*Dr. Whiterspoon exits the room, chattering brightly to the nurse outside the door. After a few moments, she agrees to let him take his friends on a tour. Eugene begins an animated discussion on the history of the place, and his familiarity with the words suggests it is not something made up on the spur of the moment.*
"This building was originally built as a court and jailhouse, which is why you will see the bars on the windows and the gate around the whole grounds. However, it was decided that it was too isolated from the center of town, and thus became a catch-all office for the city and county. When it was first being built, it was perfectly situated for its intended purpose. However, buildings like this take time to build, and by the time it was nearly completed, the city had grown in a different direction than the one the city planners had thought it would take.
"It was when the old asylum burned down that this place was converted to a mental institution. It was already well-suited for the job, but two decades of being used for government offices have left it with some unusual nooks and crannies. Agatha could probably show you some of them. And here is the nurses' station, of course, heart of the place. Just beyond it is the cafeteria, and we'll be going by the doctor's offices to get there. It's where the records and whatnot are kept. Most of the doctors are very busy with the patients. I think some of them don't see the inside of their offices more than once a month, if that!" Eugene chatters as he leads his small group away from the nurses' station and around a corner. Another couple of turns and they've come to a small hallway a bit off the beaten path. There's a hint of dust in the air, and only a couple of doors. One is a storeroom, and the other is marked "records."
