Combat Challenge - PCs vs Dragon

I'm in, if you'll have me.
Standard 30 point buy, core books only and default wealth levels?

Edited-----> Also Average HP? And when do you need characters in by?

Thanks

Min/max to your heart's content.
Way I see it, a dragon can even beat a min/maxer :)

(and I'll warn you right now... the dragon's taking leadership).

We'll use my PBEM's HP determinatin.... 75% on the dice roll.

And I don't need the characters... the DM does... but we gotta all agree on one...

Right on. So I'll put in the first suggestion for types...
I'd say blue or black as an even tie, with maybe red as a backup. (It's classic what can I say :) )

The only dragons to ever kill any of my party's pcs when I've been dm'ing were blues and blacks, because of effective terrain use, and less of the common draconic arrogance.

Just my two cents.

Well, I was just hoping for anything but red... biut I could take red :)

I have a preference to black over blue, but I'll let the rest of the players vote for a color.

(no one picked white, go figure)

I have to say, having the dragon take leadership strikes me as pretty absurd. Any Great Wyrm is going to count as being such a high level, and has such a hefty CHA bonus that it'll be able to have a slew of cohorts in the high teens, level-wise. Which will make this exercise not a party vs. a dragon affair, but a party vs. another party + a dragon business. Which means that, to have a fighting chance at this, every one of the PC's will be well advised to take leadership and go for a decent CHA as well, and before we know it, it'll be a dragon + party of NPC's vs. a party + army affair... Then summoned solars and demons are going to come into play, with those nifty slaying arrows... We need some very clear restrictions on this, else it will get out of control extremely quickly.

(side note - just exactly HOW does the Leadership work with something without character levels, anyway? You go by the hit dice? Not bloody likely... CR=Level? Also absurd, the wyrm would be able to have 20th level characters fighting alongside it)

Which isn't what this was supposed to be about (I thought) and it will take a couple of months to play out.

my post was serious. he is a 20th level commoner. if you want more complete stats here you go:

Idioth : Male Human, Lvl 20 Commoner

STR 15 (10 base + 5 from leveling up)
DEX 10
CON 10
INT 10
WIS 10
CHA 10

HP = 66

BAB +10/+5

Melee +12/+7 = +10/+5 + 2
Ranged +10/+5 = +10/+5 + 0

Saves: F/R/W = +6/+6/+6

Feats: SWP: Club, Toughness x 8

Skills: Profession(Farmer) + 23, Profession(Cook) +23, Craft(Spoon making) +23

After spending a few years working as a farmer, Idioth has decided to try to slay a dragon. Then perhaps, he could win the heart of his neighbor's daughter, and her hand in marriage.

Ok... no leadership... I can win without cohorts, it'll just take a little more planning :)
