After spending a few years working as a farmer, Idioth has decided to try to slay a dragon. Then perhaps, he could win the heart of his neighbor's daughter, and her hand in marriage.

Of course Idioth's evil uncle (and neighbor) may make things difficult for the spoonmaking hero. Will over-protective fathers and gene-pool purity lobbyists get in the way of true love? Or will the dragon solve the whole question?

Well, if the roster isn't full yet, I wouldn't mind dying in an amusing way...

Pity we can't use the splatbooks, all the juicy bits are in there :)

I have to say, having the dragon take leadership strikes me as pretty absurd.

The only reason I was going to take leadership, incedentally, is because I've seen so many people post how they can kill dragons in 1 round.

Nothing wrong with taking Leadership in principle - it's just like I said, things have the potential for getting out of hand very quickly. It's entirely too easy to have that first cohort be only one level lower than the character... So you could have things like a whole party of 20th level sorcerers, (get the most use out of that high charisma) each with leadership, and a whole another party of 19th level cohorts ;)

Please consider the ability to use splatbooks :) (FRCS would be useful too, but prolly pushing it)

Anyhow, that saying, I think we are in for a mordekainen's disjunction or three :)

But basically it could be worn down to initiative, considering that both the dragon and the party might have time stop or a similar spell.

Few Questions:
Will you errata harm to a will save for some damage?
If we pay for the phylacry, do you care if my character is a Lich?

Easy enough, play a cleric, who has the reach feat as in Defenders of the Faith, have all his spells of the prerequisite level as Harm. All of a sudden if that dragon gets within 30 feet of the cleric, who is 20th level, he could be in trouble. Cleric boy, would then use all his other spells to buff the rest of the party so that they only have to hit after eventually the Cleric's reach Harm spell hits the dragon. Perhaps if the wiz would be so kind as to cast fly on the cleric, then he could try to get near a smartly flying dragon. Oh, right also, the cleric should have fire proof stuff, or whatever. Personally, I think that a White dragon would be fun, of course, it would be the easiest to defeat.

I was thinking of trying to test out just how effective dragons are against PCs, and vice versa. However, everyone I know in the area lacks (a lot) in effecting D&D strategies, so I thought maybe we can do something over the boards.

What I need is 4-6 people to create level 20 characters, and I'll create a great wyrm dragon. and see if A) dragons are up to snuff in CR, and B) any of the hundreds of dragon strategies I've read actually work.
If the PC's are spellcasters, they will win.

Gate is to strong a spell.
No single GW dragon can stand up to a (20th level) party of spell casters that can gate.

Ok... even though I don't have access to very many, we'll allow the Wotc Splatbooks, but no Forgotten Realms stuff.

No liches (cause that wouldn't be a realistic party), and ECLs up to +3 on the race (allows deep gnomes and drow, I believe)

30 point buy, PC money for a level 20 character. XP is minimum for level 20, so if you elect to make items cheaper, you'll probably drop to level 19.

I'm gonna take a black dragon, and I'm betting that him, alone, can take out six level 20 characters.

So far, we have 5 volunteers:
Sollir Furryfoot
mmu1
novyet
Maudlin
dpdx
Need a 6th.

Monkeyboy has volunteered to DM, but we all have to agree on one. (Was hoping CRGreathouse or Piratcat would DM, but beggars can't be choosers).
