Combat expertise and power attack

Can anyone think of a reason why you can't have both of these feats working at the same time. Just thinking that if you need 20s to hit, you might as well take the power attack, and hit as hard as possible.

Thoughts?

Agreed, but I would only allow a characterto use there BAB once.

For example, Power Attack gives a plus to damage for every point of BAB you sacrifice. Similarly, Combat Expertise allows a bonus to AC for every point of BAB you sacrifice. So, if a character had a BAB of +5, they could do:
5 points Power Attack but nothing in Combat Expertise; or
5 points in Combat Expertise but nothing in Power Attack; or
3 points in Power Attack and 2 points in Combat Expertise (or some other combination totalling to 5)

But they couldn't do 5 points of Power Attack and 5 points of Combat Expertise.

That's a house rule.

Each feat uses the base BAB of the character. BAB is not "virtually" used by by applying it between feats.

I also think it's an unnecessary house rule; is Expertise and Power Attack a problem in your campaign?

My take on it: simply apply the penalties, which stack.

thanks everyone. It gets a bit messy when the fighter can crank his AC into the sixties and still cause 50+ hp damage when he rolls twenties. A useful ploy against some of the epic beasties with the silly Acs...

Anyway, I'll make sure to stack the penalties.

Cheers.
