Any reasons against the following house rule?
When using Combat Expertise, the penalty is applied only on offensive attack rolls, never on those made where you are considered the defender.
So you wouldn't take a penalty when avoiding a sunder or disarm attack, nor any other circumstance where an attack roll is supposed to represent how good you are at defending yourself.
