Combat revision

That isn't what i was trying to say, As character level increases, Attack bonus increases. A character can still spend money on attack bonus increase, the same is not true for AC.

True; however AC is far cheaper than BAB and Damage items – the balance (in my mind and apparently at WoTC as well)

All AC is bought. The designers tried to balance this by making more AC items but in the end just created to ACs those of the AC monkeys (>40 at high levels) and those of the not so AC monkeys(<30 at high levels)

Of course MOST (NOT all) AC is bought; Dexterity gives AC; so does Fighting Defensively and Dodge and like Feats. For the rest - how else does a humanoid get it?

And exactly what is the problem here? “AC Monkey”…is that derogatory? I can’t tell. I really don’t get why you have an issue with the designers balancing things and “just created AC Monkey’s”

That statement makes no sense, has no context and lacks foundation.

BAB is fairly constant at around +30 for combatants and 20 for wizards(who are supposed to be casting spells at that level anyway)

Again – this lacks any context. +30 at what level? For whom? Who is a combatant?

The only good example is the rohue.

And why is that…?

This is the problem! AC and to hit should be balanced not to hit, damage, and HP, unless your an AC monkey.

And again – WHY? What is the rational for your claim? Why are “AC Monkey’s” Bad?

My system doesn't really afect these things as far as I know, (except the removal of the AoO)

So how would you use your system with say a one on 6 scenario?

It seems to me, IMO, that perhaps you miss the point of the current system. These AC monkey’s as you call them are normally fighters; and fighters have certain attributes; the ability to wear armor, take feats and use any weapon out there being the primary. Why would a fighter NOT be an “AC Monkey” as you call it? He can’t cast, he can’t sneak, he can’t call upon the wild for help…he is exactly what his name says and that requires AC, HP‘s and BAB.

True

In my mind or the game?

AC monkey is just a term, I couldn't think of anything better to use.

What I meant was that only characters who really focus on having a high AC will have an AC worth mentioning, other characters where armor only for kicks

At 20th level, a combatant is a frontline melee fighter, bad word choice. The point was that people who regularly engage in melee have fairly consistant attack bonuses, as opposed AC which dramatically varies from character to character.

Because its the only one that scales nearly as well as HP

Ac monkeys aren't bad but whether you are one or not is related to whether AC has an affect on balancing combat

I'll write up one if you want but I think that flanking bonuses would be replaced by the fact that usually you take damage from every attack so 6vs1 gives 6 an advantafe. Does that answer the question?

I was only considering combat only focused characters in my discussion. Some fighters are AC monkeys, other's are not.

How did we get into discussing this anyway?
