Combat Vigor: loophole?

What about two Fighters with these feats stripping out of thier armor to "spar" with shinai (bamboo practice swords) or boken? Or for that matter... Unarmed combat? :p

Loophole? Not so much. Borken? Hardly. A clever use for a Fighter's cohort or followers? Absolutely

My thought exactly. Forget the puppy, that's work, just have two fighters go at it in a spar. You can keep it up until you both feel much, much better.

Here's a good question: What is the D&D definition of an "Encounter?" And can an "encounter" be against something that is not considered a challenge for you (e.g. a 20th level fighter vs. a single orc?)

Combat Focus
The first time you make a successful attack during an encounter, you gain your combat focus
.

Combat Vigor
While you maintain your combat focus, you gain fast healing 2. You lose this benefit when your combat focus ends.

Does this mean that a fighter can search for, for example, a dog in a city street, attack it, gaining his combat focus and the fast healing?

Technically, yeah. Wouldn't even have to be a dog - hey Bill, punch me. *socko!* *vwoooooip* Aah, there we go.

The first thing I did when I read that one was look over to my player who I was pouring over the book with and said 'Right, so, legitimatly threatening encounters only on that one' to which he responded 'Yes, absolutly'.

In which book is Combat Focus defined?

PHBII. It's a new category of feats, similar to how Tactical or Style feats were when they first came out in CompWar.

It's a chain with Combat Focus at the entry feat. Once per fight, you can get your mojo risin' and gain certain benefits depending on what other feats in the chain you have while so focused.

The part left off the original post was the duration of combt focus. 10 rounds +1 per each combat form feat.

So the original question doesn't quite work since when you are not in combat there is no such ting as "rounds" - which is why most non-combat benefit (like buffs) last for duration specificed in "time" units.

So while technically the fighter could hunt down the "dog" and start his focus. The focus ends once combat is over and the combat round system stops.

I do not agree. Rounds do not end when combat ends. Rounds is just an organizational tool that can be used any time, in or out of combat.

By your logic, spells which last X/rds could never be cast out of combat, which of course is not the case.
