Comeliness has returned!

oh, and to add something!

A pleasant appearance can influence members of the same persuasion or race. The handsome sales guy gets the job - Who wants to pet an ugly slobbering dog etc...?

I don't think comliness should be more than 4 points above or below CHA if used. Well, there is the Rodney Dangerfield factor to consider... maybe I'm wrong.

Once had a player demand he should get to re-roll his characters comeliness stat because, "Since I have to play an ugly character in real life, I refuse to play an ugly character in game."

Ouch. That's actually one of the reasons I wouldn't use the comeliness or at least, I wouldn't make players roll for it.

Honestly, I prefer to come up with my own character concept, and that includes whether or not that character is easy on the eyes as well as what class she is, how smart she is and so forth.

I use Appearance as a stat, but its rolled seperately to all the others. It has little game effect, and I have no racial mods for it, its utterly subjective from region to region, and from race to race. Its mostly a thing that comes up in rp encounters, especially when a player's genderbending. Why? Coz I'm a bastard GM.

Oh, and yes, there's a kicker spell for it: Peacock's Beauty.

If you want to split up Charisma, I think you also need to split up Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom (and basically all other stats).

Why is a deft dwarven lockmaker also good in balancing and riding, and initiative, and dodging?
Why is a huge guy, who can withstand all kind of punishing, also a good long-distance runner?
Why has a person with great common sense and willpower better eyes and ears?

Exactly. Once you start looking at it like that, you wind up with 18 attributes, like Mythus did. Best to just say that appearance has no game mechanic, and let PCs choose what they look like.

Uh.. There is already a 3.5 mechanic for looking really pretty (or so astoundingly ugly that yo mamma wanted to call God and ask for a refund):

Unearthed Arcana's Traits.

Just take the Distinctive trait. It doesn't metter if you're good or bad looking, it gives you a penalty to Disguise and adds to your Reputation.

There are plenty game systems which have a more detailed attribute split-up like this.

What you refer to would be the 2e Player's Options, which I do not really know much about, never had them nor played with them.

I have to admit that making attractivness affect roleplaying makes me nervous that we slide waaaay over in wish fullfillment. LOL! "Hey, I've got a 18 Comeliness! If there's girls at the bar, I doooo them! Where's the Mountain Dew!"

Several 3rd party products have feats that do the job, though, giving bonuses to Diplomacy or Intimidate when approprate for the character's appearance. .... "It's in the fridge!"
