D&D 5E Companion thread to 5E Survivor: Species

I'm staying out of this one. The grand list is a little too overwhelming. It could have even been broken up into smaller contests. The last one was a slog, but this one looks exhausting.

It's going pretty quickly; we're getting several eliminations every day now. Won't be long until the field has thinned out to a couple dozen with scores in the 20s, and then we will have a pretty accurate assessment of which species are the more important (whether for good or ill) than others.

Regarding the Kender:
We have literally bigger fish to fry. The kender hate will manifest soon enough.
When there is a long list its easy to overlook something. Especially something truly awful like Kender.
To be completely candid, I missed that kender were on there. New target sighted!
I honestly didn't notice them there o.o
Yeah, that's what I thought: the Kender aren't hated, they're forgettable.

Eh...that's seems a little off? There's a big difference between "Wait, kender are on the list? Well now they have to go..." and "eh, I'm not that preoccupied with kender, I have bigger fish to fry."

The latter is in the "forgettable" camp. The former is merely an artifact of the extremely long list.

I'm just sayin', nobody had a hard time finding the Drow on that extremely long list...

They were near the top and drew the eye!

It occurs to me I haven't supplied my favorite homebrew for ancestries. Because you know, of course I have favorite homebrews.
  • I like Ogskive's Tiny Races Underfoot, which has general rules for playing Tiny creatures, as well as Nix (basically water Faeries), Gremlins, Puddings, and Wealdkin. I use Wealdkin for the magical beasts in my home game, as well as the Faeries (although I combine it with elements from Walrock Homebrew's Faerie).
  • Mage Hand Press' Tibbit is exactly what I want for a playable species of shapechangers. It looks like a lot of fun.
  • I also like my own Troll race, although it's developed a bit from the rough version I posted on my blog during the D&D Next playtest. It's based on the trolls from the old Wormy comic by David Trampier.
