Complete Arcane - Hideous Blow and Aoo

Thanks, again.

Another question concerning Eldritch Blast...

I thought I understood that since Eldritch Blast was a Spell-Like Ability that it required a standard action to use it. And, therefore, Eldritch Blast couldn't normally be used more than once per round without a special feat or ability (like Quicken Spell-Like Ability).

Is this still true?

Thank you.

So, that's the real value of the Eldritch Glaive invocation: Iterative Attacks with Eldritch Blast damage (not to mention, reach). And, also, why Hideous Blow is considered weak: Single attack that provokes an Attack of Opportunity.

Eldritch Glaive lets you full attack with the newly shaped weapon, the text makes it clear. It is an exception. That sad, for a Warlock 20, you're not getting much of a full atack anyway. Eldritch Glaive is mostly useful for Warlock "gish" builds. A few levels in Warlock, some in warrior classes, and then maybe a prestige class to advance botha little. Also, Eldritch Glaive is melee touch attacks, which is usually a huge boost in chance to hit, and combines well with power attack.

Hideous Blow, aside from the AoO part, is only one attack, ever. Against full AC, which a Warlock generally can't hit reliably. Also, adding the EB damage to base weapon damage is argubly a downside, too. If you were to crit, extra dice damage do not multiply, and after a few levels, the EB damage is almost certainly higher than the weapon dice. Conversely, with Eldritch Glaive, you can crit with the xd6 of EB damage and multiply it (of course this also apllies ot standard EB, since it is weapon-like).

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that the Warlock cannot hit full AC reliably. I think it depends upon the opponents the Warlock is pitted against as well as any magic weapon or buffs that may affect the Warlock.

One thing to note... If I'm right, using Eldritch Glaive provokes an attack of opportunity, too.

I agree.
