Complete Newb looking for a Game GM Needed

IamTheTest

First Post
Im looking for any setting, preferably 3.5, to learn to play better. An experienced GM would be nice, but anyone that knows what they are doing is quite welcomed. Im fairly new to the boards so Im hoping to make some friends. Thanks for reading.

I'm looking to join an online game as a DM. Are you interested in play-by-post only? I'm fine with play-by-post, but I'd also like to play via chat if possible. Chat is harder to arrange because we have to coordinate schedules, but it sharpens your gaming (and typing) skills better than play-by-post does. If you're interested, let's start with play-by-post (in this thread) and go from there.

Im pretty open to anything really. I just want to learn more about the game in action rather than just reading the books. If you think youre patient enough to play by chat then Im sure we can try it.

Build a character or two using the standard point build method and post them here and we'll get started playing by post. Once we can nail down a time to meet, we can move to playing in chat.

What books do you have?

I can roll one, Id rather just be responsible for one as Im just starting, but itd be cool to get a couple more people in on this too. I have no problem with a one on one for a little while, but I really enjoy the party aspect.

I've found that it's better to just get started one-on-one and invite people to jump in; getting a group together before you start leads to endless arguments about what sort of game everyone wants. If we've got an active game thread going, new players can look at what the game is like so far and decide if they want to jump in.

Sounds great, I have a 3.0 PHB and all the 3.5 books and Ebberon on pdf. Im pretty open to any kind of PC so just let me know what would be good for your campaign.

Well, if you're just learning, a barbarian or a monk are good choices because they're very simple both in terms of their level progressions and their general characters. Barbarians' 12+ hit points at first level are also a big help.

I've got a whole campaign planned for the Seren islands in Eberron, so a human barbarian from Seren would work well. Your character would be a tribal guardian of a hatchling dragon, which would be played by someone else in the group.

How about a Beasthide Shifter Monk?

A character with ability scores like the ones above is the equivalent of a 3rd or 4th level character. Scale back those Ability scores, and we'll get started. I don't believe in rolled ability scores, and D&D rules are playtested using RPGA characters built with the Standard Point Buy, which you can find on page 169 of the DMG.

Also, did you want to play in the Seren Islands? Or is there another region of Eberron that interests you?
